Hi

currently drive a 2003 CRDi XS manual with 87k on the clock. Cost £1200 last year for gerarbox repair (I now know this is common with manuak boxes at 80k).

Have found a 2008 XE with 14k from a Kia dealer, aslo manual (which I like).

Will I really miss the goodies (especially self-levelling suspension), or is the XE also a great towcar?

Regards

Ken

Ken,

Hard to say if you will miss things or not - can comment on a 2008 XE though!

Had ours since March and are really pleased, it's a manual box diesel.

We teste drove a 54 version XS back in 2005 and I thought it felt a bit "wallowy" and sluggish - something that the new one definitely isn't.

Ask if you can take it for a good test drive and see what you think.

Let us know?

Hi Ken

I have an 05 Sorie XS. Apart from the comfort differences I believe the XE doesn't have the Active Torque Transfer system in its 4x4 .

There's a real credit crunch at the moment and I am sure with a bit of surfing you should find an XS model comparable to the XE you have seen. Maybe the inferior spec of the XE is why the price is so low??

Cheers

I have the 2008 Sorento Titan auto. it is a tremendous tow car.It tows without effort and is very comfortable.I think you should keep looking if you drop your spec.there is a good chance in a few months you may regret it there are plenty of bargains out there.

Hi Ken I have a 56 plate XS and would definately miss the cruise control which I find a boon on the French motorways, plus the self levelling suspension is great.Out of interesy what is the common gearbox fault do I need to get shut before 80,000 have not heard this before.

cheers John

Look at " uksorento.com".

It wasn't the gearbox but the transfer box that had a gremlin but only in a batch of earlier cars. According to Kia that problem has ben esolved and should not arise again. LOL.

Just make sure you change the transfer Box oils and gearbox oils as per Kia's recommendations.

Overall a great towcar.

Like Gilbert, I'd hate to be without my cruise control and all the other goodies. Be patient Ken and a top spec will soon come along at your price.

Cheers

Too late! Deal done. Was surprised on test drive how much more perky the newer car is and a smoother ride as well. I will miss but can live without my cruise control. Won't miss the leather seats either.

Main aim was to update car with as new as possible. Have got 2 years left of warranty and have also purchased additional Kia 2 year warranty.

So, replaced both towcar and caravan and now hoping for trouble-free (or cost-free) motoring and caravanning for the next 4 years! Should see us through to retirement, unless they want to pay me off earlier....
