We are off to spain and portugal for the winter months and are going Portsmouth to Bilbao. As we arrive at 5pm we will be staying at the docks for the night. Can someone tell me the directions as you come off the ferry i.e. left or right is it easy to find?

Thanks Martin

Hi Angela, Are you sure its 5 pm landing? I thought that all the ferries arrived in Bilboa early morning. Anyway you can stay overnight at the ferry terminal. You will probably see lots of cars etc waiting to board on your ferry for the next crossing so as long as you dont park in one of the loading lanes you should be OK.

There is a railway line alongside the terminal which is crossed by a footbridge. This gets you into a nice shopping and restaurant area which is handy.

What parts of Spain and Portugal are you heading for?

Have a great time

Hi Clive,

We are going via the new spanish ferry line AT ferries which leaves Portsmouth day before at 12 noon and we are on ferry 29 hours. We are going down to the Algarve for a few weeks via Salamanca and Evora then onto Conil near Cadiz then Montril and then to La Manga for the winter we are on the Caravanning & Camping Rally which we did last year and it was brilliant we made so many friends and had a really good time. Some do not like La Manga because it is a big site but it suited us, very flat, pitches had water, drainage and electric. Indoor heated pool and it is very flat it only cost 5 pound 80 p per day and it is very cheap to live over the winter plus we save on all our utilities whilst away. We do fly home for a few weeks over Christmas as airport is close and Ryanair fly there.

Hi Angela, I looked at the AT site after we returned here in the spring and it looks good, please post how you find the company. we may try it next year (January).

We stayed at Salamanca in May and it has to be one of the most wonderful cities in Europe. I dont know if you have been before but you must see the centre at night, the floodlights highlight things that you tend to miss in the daylight. We found it a tremendous experience.

We looked at La Manga and thought that it was just to big for us, we tend to prefer the smaller, less organised places.

Hope you have a great time and tell all about when you get back.

I know Cyncoed well, it's known as the stockbroker belt in Cardiff :)
