Spluttering water flow

We have a 2 year old Swift caravan and when we took it out for first time this year after 'wintering' we found the water in both bathroom and kitchen taps were 'spluttering'. We tried everything to try and rectify it, but no luck, and was like that the whole holiday! Grrr!!! Thought maybe it would sort itself out for the next trip after we drained everything down - but no, same thing happened again!!! We took it into the local dealers who said the filter had a hairline crack in it, and removed it. He said he could order another but as there was two filters on it, it wasn't really necessary, and the same thing would probably happen again. He told us a lot of Swift vans that went in for a service had the same problem, and apparently the cause of it was because it hadn't been 'drained down' properly for winter which meant there was still some water left in the little glass bowl. Although we had done everything we should have according to the manual, it looks like the only way to get the water out of this little bowl is to turn the caravan upside down!!!! Don't know if anyone else has had the same trouble, but any advice would be welcome.

A friend of mine has just had the same problem with his 2 year old swift and we tracked it down to a faulty non return valve which was allowing the water to drain back into the aquaroll thereby letting air into the system.

The valve can be found easily.Go to the tap in the bed locker that you use to drain the system, the valve is right next to it on the inlet side,it is about 3-4 inches long and like a blue tube.

Hi Chris,

This is not something we are aware of, however, it is possible for water to remain in the filter housing, even after the system has been drained.

For this reason, we advise that customers remove the outlet side of the pump (during winterisation) and run the pump for a few seconds, to ensure all water on the inlet side is removed completely.

Thanks,

Ash

Sounds to me that swift should provide a drain, rather than expect joe public to remove a pipe every year, some people would struggle to do that?

It's a very simple procedure which involves removing a quick release (jo public and idiot proof!) clip and detailed in the owner's manual, although the old system of hot and cold lowest point drains outside the 'van was more obvious.

Ray,

There are various drains in a caravan, depending on your model and year. However, the plastic component mentioned by Chris is part of the pump assembly, and is 4cm x 4cm (i.e. very small).

A drain on the inlet side of the pump would not guarantee all water is removed, as the drain itself (being so small) would hold water. It is far better to use the pressure difference created by the pump to remove water from the inlet side.

The only purpose of removing the outlet pipe is to ensure water does not transfer from the inlet side to the outlet side, causing further freezing issues with the taps, boiler or valves. The pipe connections are all "Quick-Fit & Release", meaning they can be removed without the need of tools and require only minor force to detach the pipe from the pump.

Ash
