We appear to have a spongy floor between the main seating area.

I can litterally feel the dip when walking on it.

A dealer has told me it is safe and will not break but it would cost about £200 to fix.

Can i just slip some hard wood or something under carpet, would this work?

In short NO,it sounds like you have delamination, this is where the floor of the caravan comes apart,it is a sandwhich bonded ply floor strong and light.one can do a repair oneself to save money, basicly a resin neads to be injected into the floor.i will leave it to other members here to give you instrucions as i have not done it myself. sarah

Floor delamination happens when the two laminated wood surfaces separate and the foam insulation which is between the two layers starts to break up.

The price quoted by your dealer sounds about right but a reasonably competent diy-er could easily fix the problem.

Slipping a piece of wood underneath the carpet won't work unfortunately but if you purchase a Floor Delamination Repair Kit and some wooden dowelling the repair is straightforward.

Here is a step by step guide which includes pictures (with acknowledgements to Mr B Davies)

hi,delamination...frightening no if you set out your stall and take your time.this is not a two hour job as stated, when you have finished you will know why they charge so much at the caravan repair shop.i have just done ours a few months ago.i will go through the steps best i can.ours had gone in two places, next to the door entrance and next to the sink four feet away.you will find that delamination is where the floor is used most.ie next to the sink and the door entrance.first decide how much delamination you have,ie.2 feet (old school) or 6 feet, this information is required when you go to order your epoxi resin mix.one mix will cover about 3 feet by 3 feet.got mine from barrons

i did quite a large area of floor in front of sink on our last caravan about 3 years ago, bought the ready mix option off ebay, it came with a srynge, easy to follow instructions, plastic plug and dowels. Its easy to do but messy and the fumes are really bad. I was going to use the plastic plugs to cap off the drill holes but they were slightly rounded on top and i wanted to put laminate down afterwards (i thought I might as well replace the carpet whilst doing the job) If you use wooden dowels to cap off the holes, you can cut them down completely level with the floor once its all set.

I am not going to repeat the method as given in last post but just remember a few key points before you start -

check you are not going to drill into any pipes or cable,

get everything ready before you start including rags or kitchen paper and large bin bag.

give yourself a very large clear work area

make sure there is a lot of ventilation and use protection.

allow time dont rush.

It took me less than 2 hours to get the carpet up (I was replacing the carpet so i cut it round the fixtures rather than gently pulling it out) prepare the area, do the job and clean up afterwards. i left the roof ligts open and windows on security catches and fumes had gone by next day. A couple of days later I spent about 20 minutes cutting a few ends off the dowels and sanding down.

the results were great, no more spongeyness, level floor and it cost no more than
