Spooky sites

Years ago before the advent of caravan blinds, it used to be lovely to walk round a site at night when everyone had drawn their curtains. The vans always looked cozy and warm giving a glow over the site. These days sites at night just look dark and spooky! How about leaving the blinds until lights out!

Like you I have noticed that as soon as dusk falls, the majority of people close their blinds. I prefer to leave my curtains & blinds open till I am ready for bed.

Totally agree. I have an old van so don't have blinds. I have a couple of lamps in the van as I tend to use them rather than the lights in the caravan plus a lamp in the awning.

The sites are a bit spooky when it's dark. I always take my dog with me when I need to visit any amenities or find my daughter!!

I agree with everyone on this one, sitting in the van with closed blinds always feels a bit clinical to me, you may as well be pitched up in your driveway.

Absolutely agree, I always leave blinds open and all lights on until bedtime. I don't suffer from claustrophobia but I find it very uncomfortable with the blinds closed. Will probably get comments from environmentalists about waste of electricity but I even insist on leaving the awning light on until bedtime much to the mother in laws disgust because quote " you will have all the midges in" worth doing it just to annoy her.

Hi Chrissylizzie

Thanks for your nice comment.

Well, the van is on the drive at the moment. I'm going to fit new spotlights, they should have arrived today but didn't so hopefully they'll arrive on Tuesday.

Curtains - well, I am planning to make them over the next two weeks. I'm very very busy at work at the moment but my mum said she'll assist. I'll let you know.

Regards.

Lisa.

When I saw the heading 'Spooky Sites' I wondered if you meant as in ghosties. At Burford C.C. site, so I was once told, you can still hear the footsteps of marching Roman soldiers - the road passing the amenities block is supposedly on the track of an old Roman road. I don't believe it of course. I only prefer to use the on board facilities at night because it seems so pointless to have such things and not use them. Or so I tell myself!

I find people who walk around a caravan site looking into other peoples vans at night a little disturbing! Do not worry yourself with what other people do - if you want to have a look in my van when my blinds are shut - knock on the door - the kettle is always warm.

I did not say I looked into vans. I implied that when JUST the curtains are closed, when seen from the outside of the van, you just see a glow of lights, rather than when the blinds are also down you just see pitch blackness. Quite a different thing than your interpretation.

I'm amazed at the sort of things people notice and what thoughts occupy their minds. I've never been consciously aware of whether my curtains or blinds are drawn in the dark except when getting ready for bed.

Hi Monkey

Am I the only person who loves to look inside other people's caravans when the lights are on? Another great passtime of mine is when I take the dog for a walk and it's dark, its great to get the best possible look into people's houses when their curtains are open and the lights are on.

Great fun, highly recommend it.

Regards

Why do you look in and what do you look at? Do you wear all black to make it a real adventure - reduces the risk of being seen????

I have to say personally we tend to talk to people outside of their vans on a evening walk instead of looking in on them!!

But each to there own - I do not want to say you are right or wrong in the fear that Clive v will pop up and accuse me of being anti something!!!!

We are off to the Lake District in October - I'll look out for you!!!!!

You'll know who I am, I WILL be dressed all in black and if its raining, I'll be holding a black umbrella, my dog is black with a black muzzel. I do talk to people when they are outside their vans, but if they arn't, I'll have a good look in through their window if the curtains are open.

p.s. Try walking up your street at christmas when it's dark - people's houses with curtains open, lights on, you see some fabulous christmas decorations, my neighbours all do it too!!!!........ I know they do coz I have seen them. Even the school children do it on their way home.

Oh god, let's not upset Clive.

Regards.

I can't possibly tell you that. I actually live in a rather nice neighbourhood in suburbia, we'll leave it at that.

Clive's just left a rather nice and informative posting on the 'unfriendly caravanners' thingy.

Regards.

Lisa.

Hi Monkey

I own an old Fleetwood. Bought it last year. When the child is 16 in three years time, we're going to buy a new one, we are thinking that, at 16, it won't be cool to caravan with your parents (please, I hope we're right, fingers crossed). On a serious note, Neighbourhood Watch is excellent, I'm in the emergency services and I highly recommend it.

I wonder if Clive's sleying the pig?? (Joke Clive if youre reading this later)...

Regards.

Lisa.
