As the title suggests I am looking for peoples views on the above.

I have purchased a set but not installed them yet.Do they put the car back to normal ride height whilst towing, improve towing characteristcs and can they be left on the car when not towing.

I tow with a Mondeo ST Tdci hatch which is slightly lower than standard mondeo's.

Thanks in advance

What do you mean by a 'normal' ride height. If you mean the same ride height as if the car were unladen, then this can only be achieved with a self-levelling suspension. Otherwise, the car shouldn't be further down at the back when towing than if the boot were full. After all, you mustn't exceed the rear axle load whether the caravan is hitched up or not and the ride height at max. rear axle load should be adequate regardless of whether the load is on the towball or in the boot.

Jonathan, I tow with a Mondeo st hatch and have no need for assistors. The ride height is very slightly lower normally than other Mondeos, but as for towing, providing I keep to the 75kg noseweight I dont have any problems. (Van is 1350kg)

With a firm suspensioned relatively new car like a Mondeo ST, I would not expect too much suspension drop.

I would check your noseweight......

With the van on the back - Coachman 560/6 at 1500kg the drop isn't that severe. As Lutz mentioned it should be no worse than having a boot load which it isn't.I haven't checked the noseweight,I shall this weekend, but the better half and daughter tend to sit in the back!!

I think my problem is is that I compare it to my old Mondy Estate which did have self-levelling.

Thanks for replies.

You may get a big surprise if you've never checked your nose weight. Be prepared for a weekend of juggling the stuff around to get it down to 75kg.

Caution, I decided to put MAD springs on my Mazda 6 as I suffer from droop when loaded (Not overloaded.) But I rang my insurance first (Zuric) and they NO I could'nt - "modification to the suspension"

I have them fitted to my Renault Espace

I'm not sure if the issue with Insurance Companies, is they don't like it when you have the suspension lowered.

When you fit Assisters, I'm not too sure if this would cause a problem as you are only upgraded the existing set up, but be aware they could use this as a get out clause for any future claims,

best regards, Martin

They point blank said no non standard spring. I suppose they couldnt be bothered. Perhap I won't be bothered with Zuric next year.
