HQ is in the South East ;-) Have it on V GOOD authority that sadly "buyer beware". Shame as they look quite OK to me.

ps, I live in the SE ;-)

Yes would second that. watch engines over 60K and brakes anytime, a friend had one pleased when it went.

Every road test I have seen on these 4x4s have given them a good write up. Aren't they based on the old Mercedes Benz diesel running gear? As far as looks are concerned for the price you have to put up with certain drawbacks - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

thanks for all your comments, people. we were pretty set on the rexton and having been for a test drive we were quite impressed, but after reading your thoughts and those of a certain car magazine, well,'nuff said! where do we look now? wife quite likes the jeep cheroke 2.8crd, but people warn me that the rear axle is sometimes a bit iffy? back to those that know,

cheers, .dave

Dave, two things you must do with a Jeep: Always have tyres with the same tread pattern and roughly the same tread depth on the rear axle, and only ever use the differential oil supplied by Jeep. This info came from a friend who has been a Jeep dealer for over 25 years.I think the "dodgy diff" reputation came about through peole self-servicing with inferior oils. I run a 4l petrol(lpg) Jeep with 124k miles on the clock and the diff is silent, and it tows a 23ft Hobby.

Dave i tow with a 2.5 deisel Sorrento XT, have had a discovery two frontera's this is by far the best ride and has more pulling power than jonny depp. It also gets a great write up by PC and the CC, JD power give it a good write up too.
