Staveley Caravan Club Park in the Derbyshire Peaks. Just stayed there for a few days and thought I'd report back. Looks lovely in the caravan club book, loads about it being nice & new, one of their ECO sites and next to a "Country Park"
OK, nice & new it is. Newly built on a landscaped hill which used to be a mining slag heap. Lots of lovely tree planting, all saplings at the mo. Should be loads better in a few years time when they've grown a bit.
Eco. well yes, they recycle your grey water and use it to flush the loos, which are exceptional. In fact the whole shower block & veg prep area was 1st class. Oh and they have a wind generator up there as well. (noisy thing if that bothers you)
The country park bit is basically a small lake (man made) and a cafe building which serves the worst sausage cob I've ever tried to eat. Pre-cooked sausages in a spongy cheap bun with a smidge of the cheapest "value" range brown sauce. Weak coffee to boot. I think "Country Park" is stretching it a bit.
I know we've had some bad weather this week but the wind .....strike a light, that place is better suited to being a wind farm, not a caravan site. Being slag with a small covering of soil and then some gravel on the hard standings it was nigh impossible to get any type of pegs to hold so awnings are a real no-no. I double pegged every loop on our awning and it still lifted. Neither does water drain off easily so a lot of the pitches were waterlogged. They really need to sort this out.
Nice views, nice staff, great showers and for me, a few good reasons to avoid the place. Oh, and 19 quid for a 6kg propane gas bottle didn't help either. I know most of this is down to Calor and their "Dick Turpin" style of charging though.
Quite a few things to see and do around there so would make a good base for motorhomes. Caravans & awnings definitely need calm weather though. Only about 1.5 miles from the M1 Jnc 29a as well.
