Steps with Hand Rail for a Tourer

Can anyone tell me where I can obtain steps suitable for a touring caravan that comes with a hand rail. My elderly mother loves to caravan in our tourer. I set it up on a site for her and the added stability would be great for her. I don't want to add one of those screw on types to the side of the van, so something like a standard step with removable rail would be great. Maybe even with some height adjustment and preferably lightweight.....

Thanks for any help and Happy Caravanning...

If you have an existing double step, aquire tube the same inturnal diamiter as the step legs, cut to about 3inches weld side by side two of them. put one step leg into one tube and a rail into the other. repeat on the other step leg. It can help if the legs of the rail are spiked so they stick into the ground. with any of these devices, commercial or otherwise she would need to be supervised comming back out of the van as she could easily hold the rail b4 putting weight onto the step with dire results.

I saw some of those type of steps only this week at our local camping & caravan accessory store. Aluminium steps (2 steps I believe) with an attached handrail, the top step was also larger than the normal step. I never looked at the price as we weren't looking for a step but try contacting Camping International on 01634 577326 or do a search I am sure they have a website.

I had one made for my wife's use. The firm make access platforms for working on aircraft etc !! but they make one-off items as well.

I rang them and specified what I wanted. I said two steps, highest 13inches above ground. Handle fitted (in my case} to the right-hand side because my 'van door is hinged on the left. I asked for stabilisers both sides. These are slide-out steadies for extra stability. I also asked for 6 base plates (4 feet and 2 stabilisers) - the normal aluminium tubes can make holes in a groundsheet or disappear into mud !

The firm is Hiatco limited, West Road, Annfield Plain, Stanley, Co Durham, DH9 8NJ 01207 282314.
