Storage. Good news, Bad news.

Hi,

We store our caravan at a small site in Hirwaun (South Wales), paying about £200 a year. Site is protected by a sliding electric gate.

We visited on Sunday to prepare for our trip on Wednesday.

Good news? When we arrived we found that the manager had kept his promise to wash the van. Refused payment.

Bad news? We noticed that somebody had nicked the bolt that clamps our jockey wheel. The manager said it was probably taken by the owner of another van, then he took the clamp bolt off an old van that he owns {or said he did } and gave it to us ..... again refusing payment.

He said somebody lost a jockey wheel last year ..... but he (the manager) recognised it on another van. That van was "evicted" the next weekend.

Nice bloke.

The place I mentioned is in HALT ROAD, Hirwaun (could be Rhigos) near Aberare. Just underneath the trunk road bridge.

Phone number for Ray is 07813768021 or the office 01685 811611. Opening hours are 0800 to 1700 during the week, but closed Wednedays. Saturday 0900 to 1200. Sunday is 0900 t0 1200 then 1400 to 1800.

A few weeks ago, every lamp-post had a notice advertising a new caravan storage facility in Aberdare, or maybe Merthyr. I understand it was considerably more expensive, which migh indicate that security is better. Try phoning Ray (above) ask for details, or do a www.YELL.com

I will do some research over the next few days and have a drive around to have a look. Did find one in Tonyrefail which is quite close to us but when we went to look you were able to just drive into the compound without being challenged.

Hi 602,

Having once snapped a jockey wheel fixing bolt - too many Weetabix for breakfast maybe - and one time arriving at the storage site to find someone had taken my bolt and left a bent and manky one in it's place I now keep a spare in the van.
