Storage in Sheffield - Can CL's do short term storage?

We picked up our caravan in October and had planned to keep it at the in-laws bungalow but it was very difficult to site. We've been shopping around for storage and are having difficulties finding a space but we're quite hopeful that a place may come available in April. We're going away for Easter and so we'll need to store the caravan short term - maybe 3-4 weeks until the space is available. Does anyone know if CL's can take caravans for storage? Or any other ideas? If we have to, we'll take it back to the in-laws but, believe me, it's a right royal pain getting it in!

The CC say no to storage of caravans on a CL,even for one night but there is nothing to say a CL owner cannot keep a van elswere on thier property. We have kept caravans for friends on the farm away from our CL. not for long term just to help out when they mooved house. you can but ask.

Have you thought of investing in a motor mover? They are great for getting 'vans into difficult parking areas and would pay for itself within a very short period of time.

We've thought about a motor mover but we're worried that we might pay for it and then still struggle. We're then left with having to find the money for storage as well. My in-laws neighbour who seems to be in the know thinks that a mover would struggle with the incline of the drive as, not only is it an awkward shape with a garage in the middle, the drive is very steep at the bottom and the clutch on our car smelled of burning when we tried it last time.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

Before you make your final decision have a word with a motor mover company (Portouch are more than helpful) and get their advice. A mover is made to traverse a 1 in 4 slope and get a caravan(s) in tight spots. Powrtouch have always been easy to chat to on the phone if we have had any problems. There is no better word than from the horses mouth.

Just a thought.

Thanks for your interesting reply Ann. We've been doing more research on motor movers and all claim to move heavier 'vans than ours up a 25% incline. Our problem is - how steep is 25%? Seen somewhere that Winnetts Pass in Castleton is 20% and parents drive is nowhere near as steep as that! It's not actually got to move the caravan very far, it's just the incline that makes manual manoeuvering difficult as we worry that the van will run away from us.

We're seriously considering Powrtouch now (read other threads here and seem to be second to none for service etc) but just need to try and get the price down. Cheapest so far is

Hi Claire & Rob

Sorry for the late reply! 1" in 4" (relates to 25%/100%). Powrtouch will price-match. It is worth shopping around and it is quite feasible that this time of year you could bag a bargain.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Ann. We'll ring round when we've made our final decision. We've started another thread on this subject under 'Equipment & Accessories' and have got some useful info there. Thanks again - hopefully you've solved a big headache for us!

Regards
