Could I suggest that all 4x4 threads NOT in towcars get deleted. Also all messages that appear in other threads that are seen to start the debate outside of towcars are also deleted

Have to disagree on this one.
It could stifle open debate if people are worried to mention 4x4 or something that maybe linked 4 x 4.
It would not be moderation but covert censorship and again stifles the rights of 4 x 4owners an peoples freedom of choice and ability to express their views freely!

This is not to stop the mentioning of 4x4's this is just a way to stop the 4x4 debate that always seems to rear its ugly head in many places it does not belong.
If someone asks how to a caravan easily in a forum other than tow cars and someone replies that they should fit a front tow point to their 4x4 then I see no problem. however if the next post is one that says get rid of the earth killing 4x4 then this should be dropped. However, to allow this discussion it was agreed some time ago that this debate could take place in tow cars. So the suggestion is to delete it if it is not in tow cars and let the posters move it if they wish.

Express them in here cris, feel free because nobody is stopping you. It's just that people are fed up of seeing 4x4 pro's and con's debated in all the forums. It's a tow car so should be debated under Tow Cars.
Many of the threads and original posts go off the original theme. It's the nature of the beast!

cris, just to give an example, the thread about 4x4s that was under General ran for 9 months, from March 2005 until Dec. 2005 with 108 posts and thats not counting the ones deleted by His Moddyship. It lay dormant for 2 months until resurrected by Janice (although it was an innocent question) and the arguing started all over again. People are truly p***ed off of looking in Our Website, General, Chit Chat etc. and finding arguments on the same topic of 4x4s. No matter how people try to discuss the subject there are always some waiting in the wings to stir things up just as theres always people who take the bait and respond.
No, beleive it or not, I am now sick of the debate as well. maybe I miss the usual targets to play up but it does not have the fun it used too.
Or I am getting old.

I have sympathy with the suggetsion, and I agree fully that too many thread seem to get diverted in to the 4x4 debate, But even with the length of time the argumnets have raged, we still see the ocasional new view appear on the subject.
Could I suggest another alternative, Is it ppossible for the moddy in his/her wisdom to move the thread to towcars rather than totally deleted it? That way its not cendsorship, it's managing. The views are retianed and the other threads are disinfected.

Steve (and everyone else). Unrelated threads becoming an argument over 4x4s isn't a problem for me as long as it's a progressive argument. When it comes down to snide jibes and insults it should then be stopped. Having said that, I've only been on this forum 4 months and I'm a bit bored of the 4x4 thing already.
I cant for the life of me see how its censorship. You are reading the same post only under the thread its supposed to be under. Debate 4x4s and argue in here instead of all over the forum. If its deleted ok, then you are right. Its just good housekeeping by His Moddyship. craig show me a 4x4 debate that doesn't turn to name calling, different day - same sh*t.
