Sunshades whilst laid up

Has anyone any bright ideas as to how to keep the sun out of the caravan whilst it is laid up? Obviously we close the roof shades, but on the windows it says in the manual not to leave the blinds down as it will ruin the spring tension, and our curtains are for show only and do not pull across. This leaves net curtains in place, but we also wedge bits of corrugated card in place to keep the sun from fading the interior, but there must be a better way?

Hi Pete,

We had same issue with our Sterling Sapphire. To solve it we bought several metres "off the roll " of weed suppressing membrane from the local garden centre, cut it into sizes a bit bigger than each window & then used plastic clematis rings to hang it from the curtain rails. Use a felt pen to mark each one with which window it covers & you can put em up in no time. The added advantage being the material is so lightweight, you can just fold it up & keep it in a locker so it's always to hand. We even made a blind for the Heki from it by glueing three strips of garden cane to the fabric, cut just long enough to fit into the blinds side channel.

PS: if you can't find plastic clematis rings, just use plastic clothes pegs to pin the membrane to the curtain rails.

Not a bad idea - thanks for that. I had been thinking in terms of the silver insulated stuff you see in motorhome windows, but your idea will be cheaper and pack away smaller. Off to the garden centre it is...

We always use dust sheets over the interior when the vans in storage and never had a problem with the sun fading the interior.

Mind the last two summers there has hardly been any sun to fade anything!

The folding silver sublinds intended for car windscreen work very well for the, and there shuld be plenty on the market now or soon given the amount of sun we've had recently.

They will tuck into or behind the curtain rails and can be pushed up into the heki or similar roof lights. Fold up easily for storage.
