Taps with/without microswitches

I have a 1982 Mustang Shetland GTS, and the taps fitted do not have micro switches fitted like the more modern style. I guess it just uses the water pressure through the Shurflo water pump (internally mounted, not a submersible type)

The taps are getting a little stiff now so I thought about replacing them with more modern types, but would they then need the microswitches wiring in to the pump, and if so any ideas how the wiring should be done

I am a competent DIY'er, just need some guidance on the principles i should follow

I would imagine that your water system has a pressure switch in it somewhere. You open the tap, the pressure drops, the switch actives the pump.

That being the case the taps can be changed for any type you want. If your new taps have micro switches in them just dont wire them up. Your tap is essentially just a water valve.

BTW i've freed off many a stiff tap by just stripping it down & lubricating with vaseline.

The majority of Shurflo inboard pumps have a pressure switch built into them. So all you would need is taps that close properly.

I'll just fit them without the switches, just got to find some that fit now!!

Might also try Glenn's suggestion of stripping and lubing up though, they are 27 years old now!!!

Nice to see you keeping a older van on the road, mine's a 1982 Abi ace viceroy, as other's have said strip the tap's down and lubricate, you'd be surprised at the final product
