The AA

Today at the show I was handed a leaflet by the AA that states that the length restriction for roadside assistance has been removed. this means they will recover my van that is over the current 18' restriction.

Great News

I phone the AA to make sure I have the right cover, they say that the restriction has not been lifted!

So anyone from the AA want to comment? Maybe PC could find the answer. let me know a mail address I can scan and send the leaflet to.

How many people have joined at the show thinking their new twin axle will be recovered?

Steve, Be careful with this one, note it says restrictions for roadside assistance has been removed. This does not mean the Recovery side of the cover, restrictions still apply. I was at the show yesterday and this was quite a topic of conversation, I was chatting with the RAC Arrival rep on the C&CC stand who was saying that she had had more than a few people over the weekend seeking her advice because they had been signed up by the AA at the show and then realised that restrictions re recovery of caravans were very much in place. This subject has been a hot topic on another forum and the consensus seems to be , take out cover through one of the main clubs. for what its worth iam with CC Mayday using Green Flag. Hope this helps

Due to the fact we,ve been members of the AA for twenty or more years and only vanning for 4 I,ve had quite a few conversations and e-mails with the AA about this . They will recover a van of 18 feet or less because thats the biggest they can fit on their transporters , but they will tow a van up to 26 feet if possible.

Mo, It still seems the AA has lots of ifs and buts in its reply, I for one certainly would not want to be stuck at the roadside while AA control staff were interpreting the restrictions etc. At least with CC Mayday and C&CC RAC Arrival you know they have no restrictions on length or weight of your Caravan,they will also cover you after an accident,the AA dont. Another bonus is you will find they are much cheaper.

With RAC Arrivals there is also the offer of temporary accommodation in the event of an accident or breakdown.

Yes the AA will tow a larger van ONLY if it can be towed. They will not recover a damaged van over 18' under their roadside Assistance offering.

I will be moving to the CC scheme to ensure that the van is recovered if the worst should happen

My son-in-law broke down about 5 miles from home whilst towing(engine mounting collapse). The AA would not recover caravan(23feet overall).Neither would they transport the kids home.I had to recover caravan/kids. He has now dumped AA and gone with Mayday...no restrictions and cheaper. Too many "if's and but's" with AA.

When you think of all the negative postings about the AA in this and other forums you would think they would take action. It is obviously bad advertising for them and is costing them a lot. Typical head in sand management.
