I am trying to find a site on the Gower which will take a caravan and a tent and allow them to pitch together. It will be our son in law's first taste of camping so its important to give him a good first impression (clean toilets, level pitches etc) and we would prefer a quiet site, ideally close to one of the Gowers lovely beaches, and we must be able to bring our dogs. Hook-up would be nice but is not essential. We plan to move on to Kiln park to let him try one of the Haven parks and see what they offer for the children but we want to show him a quieter site first. We plan to go in june so hopefully it wont be too busy.

I am sure one of you guys will know the perfect place so thanks in anticipation!

Jim.

Try the CC site at Pembrey - the outdoor facilities in the adjoining country park are excellent - good beaches, ski slope, cycle rides, model steam trains, pony trcking, etc. etc. Also excellent fish and chips in the village chippy.

When a CC site says "no tents", it usually means there is no formal tent area for use by folk on a hiking holiday but, very often, it's ok to pitch a tent behind the caravan to be used by some of the party from the caravan. Might be worth a phone call to the site in question. Hope this helps.

Hello J&P, not sure if you will have seen my comment which I foolishly tucked away in Colin(Bridgend)'s entry but basically it would be worth a phone call to Pembrey re tents as it's often OK to pitch a tent alongside a caravan for use by folk in the same party. This generally means children, but not always. When the CC says "no tents", it only means there is no separate tent area where tents can pitch independant of caravans.

Hello Jim, I think Port Eynon Bay is hard to beat. However, I have not taken our caravan there so perhaps others will be able to comment on the site on the western side of the bay. It is very close to the beach and I think gently sloping. There are shops nearby, none of them big, but probably ok for basics. The pub, the Ship Inn, is ok but does get full in the high season. Only to be expected. The highlight of the site must be the view of the bay which is spectacular. Avoid the site at the top of the hill in Port Eynon...'vans were very close together the last time I was there. Another site in the area which may suit your needs is called Bank Farm in Horton. I know they have a bar, swimming pool and shop facilities. They too have stunning views. However, there is a steep hill down to the beach...a bit too steep perhaps for the elderly and infirm. I think they have a website so check it out. The Gower is as beautiful an area as you will find in Britain. But then I am biased. Best wishes, George T.

Thanks Malcolm but its a large "tunnel" tent with 2 adults 2 children and 2 dogs so I dont think they will allow it next to our caravan, might give them a ring and check though. Jim.

Try this site about 100 yds from beach

superb site
Looks like a very good position but some of the reviews on uk campsites said it slopes quite steeply, how bad is it and are there any level areas? Thanks, Jim.

Three cliffs camping park is good - fabulous views close to beach but you do need to book very early
Thanks Andrew, I had a look at this one on "Ukcampsites" and some of the reviews said that the tent pitches slope quite steeply in places. How bad is this and are there any level areas? Thanks, Jim.
