John,

Only been to two sites in the Lake District that I would recommend.

One is the Caravan Club site at Bowness, easy walking distance to the Lake and into the village. If you want you can park up the car for acouple of days and use the various water buses to different towns and villages. Smallish site, toilet and shower block were inolder buildings than the normal C.C.standard but kept spotless.

The other was one of the Camping and Caravan Club sites just on the outskirts of Keswick (I believe there are two C.C.C. sites at Keswick). The local Rugby Club is just at the road end and were doing meals when we were there. This site is located on the lakeside and is within easy walking distance of the town centre.

Again the toilet and showers were in older type buildings but were well maintained.

Both good sites.

the lakes covers a big area,it would help to recomend a site if you said which part you want to visit, or do you intend to drive alot and try and see it all?

Do you prefer large club sites, or small cl`s

John,

Would recommend The Ashes Adult Only Touring Park near Kendal.

www.ashescaravanpark.co.uk

Only takes around 22/24 vans and great views from every pitch. Very close to all the facilities of Kendal and perfect for touring the North and South Lakes as well as the Yorkshire Dales. Added bonus of only 4 miles from the M6 although you would never know when on site.

Stayed there in August 2003, 2004 and 2005 and would highly recommend the site. Last year, as we now have a 1 year old daughter, we tried the Caravan Club site at Troutbeck near Penrith - great site but not as quiet as The Ashes and a bit of a drive to the main tourist areas, although only 7/8 miles from Keswick.

This year we are going to try Low Park Wood - near Kendal again.

South Lakeland - Park Coppice Caravan Club site, Coniston: lovely site, good facilities: good walkings from site including to village of Coniston (15 mins - few shops, bank, nice pubs - good food). Road for last few miles of route a bit narrow but okay with care.

North Lakeland: - Keswick Camping and Caravan Club site: down long lane: lakeside views, ask for pitch away from childrens play area for quiet. Also, CCC's Derwentwater - (No awnings) and CCC's Walker Park. Facilities a bit elderly but very clean and water hot. All 3 sites are on edge of Keswick and very popular so need to book early. Keswick has excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. Plenty of walks from site, boat and ferry trips round lake.
