In our experience (12 or 13 years of caravanning) that's quite rare, Danny - we've certainly never had anything stolen in that time (well, apart from the caravan itself, but that's another story lol - and it didn't happen on a camp site). In fact, I've only ever heard of thefts, of bikes or things out of awnings, occurring on two sites - both very large sites that are accessible by the general public, not just campers staying there.

I don't think it's something you need to be overly concerned about, other than common sense putting away of valuable items or things you wouldn't want to disappear, when you go out for the day.

It's just occurred to me.....we did have our metal double steps stolen a couple of years ago, from a large commercial site. But as I say, it's a very rare occurrence.

oh god, sorry to hear about the caravan. and the only thing really that would be in the awning is the blue fold away picnic table but when we go out it folds in seconds and just store it in the bathroom.

i might just be paranoid as its our first van and outing.lol. i have bought cables to attach the fresh water and waste water barrel to the chasis though.lol

We haven't had anything nicked on site in 10 years of camping motorhoming and caravanning. But we did get the cassette nicked from the toilet when the van was parked at home.

We've never had anything stolen - although we have heard of people who have.

We usually caravan in France, although wo do use the caravan in Britain, too. In France you can leave absolutely anything outside your caravan, in an open awning, with the sides out - and even leave a handbag on the table. Your neighbours are much more likely to take it safely inside their van, than to steal it. I know, I've left my bag outside all day, and our Dutch neighbours took it inside for me, left a note, and called when we arrived home to give me the bag back.

I would hate to stay on the sort of sites where you need to keep everything chained up, shut in, or out of sight.
