I have a fixed thetford toilet eg non swivel type. Is the battery compartment for empty/full level guage accessed from the external compartment eg where the waste tank is stored?

hi Gordon, I assume from your post you have an electronic flush type in which case sorry mate I have no idea as mine is a manual gauge that uses a float in the waste canister.

however on reflection I would add that not many items of caravan equipment use seperate batteries as a power source more likely that is connected to the vans 12v supply somewhere

I think it is powered from the caravan battery. If you remove cassette and feel along the top i think there was a fuse near the hole at the left hand side ,this may be blown.

The 3 amp fuse is for the pump, not the level indicator.
The power should be coming from a permanent supply from the van.
The level is recognised by a reed switch at teh side of the cassette compartment and a float inside the cassette.
The most usual reason for failure is either the light has blown, or the float inside the cassette has become dislodged and is not doing what it should be, or the float has become stuck with paper inside the cassette.

If the float has become detached from its place it may well have been disposed of when emptying the cassette.
