Thetford Fridge Ignition

I hope someone can help!

I have a Thetford N112 fridge which works fine on 230v but not on gas. The other gas appliances are all working and the gas valve to the fridge is on. When I switch to the gas setting and depress the temperature knob (on full) the gas indicator needle goes in to green and when I release the knob I can hear the ignition clicking. The needle just falls back to the white and the ignition keeps clicking. Repeating the procedure get the same result.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Most likely either a misaligned or faulty flame recognition probe, or a fault on the PCB.

I'm sorry to be so hard hitting but:

You have asked a question about an appliance that involves the gas system. and you have indicated you would like to try and fix it yourself.

The Gas Safety Installation And Use Regulations generally require that only a class persons who have a approved accreditation may work on design, installation, maintenance, removal of gas appliances and installations. However there is a specific clause that exempts privately owned touring caravans a self propelled motor homes not for hire or reward from that requirement. It permits the owner (and no one else) to carry out tasks on the gas appliances and installation. Anyone else working on the same caravan must be accredited to do so.

Despite that specific relaxation of the class of person, there is no relaxation to the standard of work to be carried out.; Health and Safety regulations do still apply and they require all work on gas installations and appliances must conform to the approved codes of practice which includes design, installation, maintenance, removal and testing of gas systems. Breeches of H&S regulations is a criminal offence, and prosecution can result in imprisonment.

In practice it is unlikely that an untrained owner would have all the knowledge equipment and skills to be able to complete any of these tasks to the required standards. So the advice is only attempt work on gas related items if you are competent to do so. Otherwise refer it to an accredited person or business

Its also worth bearing in mind the hazard to yourself and your family and subsequent owners who may placed at risk. And indeed could sue you if non compliant works have been carried out.

Had the same problem with Thetford N80 fridge.
Cleaned the burner, checked the thermocouple, but still would not stay lit.
After seeing same problem on other websites, I came across this solution:-
Pull off the gas control knob, put a small piece of paper inside the knob to pack it out when on the shaft, and it now works fine every time.
After time the inside of the plastic knob gets worn, by continual pressing, therefore not allowing the control to be pushed in far enough.

Many thanks for your reply. In my case the problem turned out to be a poorly installed thermocouple.

If the problem comes back I'll follow your solution.
