Hello all,
This is possibly a very schoolboy question
smiley-embarassed.gif
, but its bugging me a little!
How does one tell that the Thetford N80 fridge is actually working on 12v?
The last van had a switch on the fridge that lit up once the engine was running and the split charge relay had closed to supply voltage to the van, and indeed this lit up on the current car, so I presume that the tow bar wiring is correct/has the additional feed etc.
There isnt an indicator light on the front panel on the fridge that I can see, and although I cant be sure, i belive the light inside the fridge is powered by the general 12v, so once the engine has started, the habitation relay isolates this supply?
Appreciate that the 12v operation is only intended to maintain a temperature, and that it should be pre-cooled on mains or gas before using the 12v, and to be honest, our trips are sub-4 hours long, so not a major issue, but as above, it 'bugs' me a little!
The fridge otherwise works perfectly on mains and gas!
Thanks
Rob

You could use an ammeter across the fridge fuse and see what power is being drawn , it should be 6 to 8 amps.

Hi Damian,
The logical answers are usually the best! I have done exactly that, and have confirmed that it is drawing current.
Thanks again.

Rob
