Just had a week in Cornwall with the Granddaughter and some scum bag nicked my aqua roll screw top, not by removing the whole thing from the neck but by cutting through it. Reported it to reception and told them not only do they have a thief staying on their site but they are also walking round with a sharp knife. They wrote it down and said they would speak to security but they hadn't had any other reports of crime. Not sure if it's appropriate to disclose the name of the site but I don't think I'll be going back there.

Sorry to hear about your theft, some people are just plain mean... we suffered last year but not an essential piece of equipment like yours but a hitch cover ours was brand new from our dealer someone on site had the same cover but sun bleached, we went out for the day and came back to find they had been switched., of course the denied all knowledge, we aso reported it but as we didn't see it happen nothing they could do.... just very frustrating when you spend time and effort to keep your rig in tip top condition.....

Greetings Mikey,

Sorry to hear your probs. You can't believe that someone would go that risk to steal a screw top!!!.

On a related subject, how many people are selling aquarolls and the like on ?Bay without the handles.

Stinks to me and, as a result I have made up some security fasteners for the likes of my water butts and solar panel. Easy to do with a shackle at either end of plastic coated wire. Don't forget to bu**er the ends of the threads on the shakles or the cheeky blighters will bring along their socket sets to undo the shackles!!!!

Hi Di

I hope you made a note of their reg no. may be worth checking with your dealer how many new ones sold in last 3 months. Doubt you'll get far.

How sad there are now caravanners prepared to steal hitch covers and aquaroll screw tops. What next? Awning pegs???

Cheers

MickeyW its the sign of times, you have to remember pond life think they have the right to any one's possessions as they no perfectly well that if caught the establishment do nothing about it, that is unless its a crime against the state them heaven and earth would be moved to apprehend them.

I personally would do what Arabs do chop their bl---y hands off.

This year in the south of France i had a side marker lamp lens and a breakaway cable stolen. The cable was swapped for one that had been broken, they tied it on underneath the A frame, I only realised when I triad to hitch up to come home, it would not reach the bracket on the tow bar, looked underneath to see what the problem was and found it was just tied on. How people have got the nerve to do that is beyond me, it is not something that is easey to remove, takes a couple of screwdrivers and time.

I visited a caravan accessory showroom half way up and just off the A1, and I noticed they sold them, so perhaps all is not lost.

I suppose we now have to mark everything with our postcodes and dayglow orange paint as well as locks and chains.

Hi Mike

Perhaps its Cornwall, we 'lost' our jockey wheel at a large commercial site near Newquay, next to a golf course and adventure park, the night before we were due to leave, had to buy a new one, since then we lock as much as we can, we even padlock Aquarolls to steadies, I know it won't stop a determined thief. Sad world we live in sometimes.

Just to reply to Sam, no it wasn't a CC site or C&CC site for that matter it was a large comercial site with a mixture of van's, motorhomes and tents all mixed up in the same areas.

Not our normal type of site but it was an ideal location for our Granddaughter, right on the beach and we had a lovely time with her despite eveything.

Doesn't need to be anything of value for some to steal, just that fact that it is not theirs and they can.

Just back from a CC site outside Scarborough and during the week we had a couple of cheap canvas bags stolen from the laundry room. They were not of any value but useful. The wife left them on top of the washing machine when she nipped back to the van and was gone no more than 5 minutes.

Also our neighbour on the next pitch is pretty sure his timely return from the toilet block stopped a chap from taking the rotary drier shoved under the van.

Mentioned to the warden in case they had been handed in by someone thinking the bags had been left by mistake and was given the impression this was not an isolated case. Fortunately in our case it was nothing essential or of value.

When we came back from our last French holiday in late May we unloaded the caravan in the storage compound, and put dirty washing and bedding into several black bin liners to carry it back home in the car. A week or two later we discovered that our caravan duvet cover was missing, along with two pillowcases, two beach towels, David's favourite linen shirt, and my favourite holiday jeans.

We reckon someone must have nicked one of the black bin liners from inside our open boot whilst we were unloading (we were distracted at one time, by a telephone call which took our attention for perhaps fifteen minutes). We live on a safe cul-de-sac and the only people who really pass by are our neighbours and several local dog-walkers.

Goodness knows what other horrors were in the dirty washing bag - but we've obviously not missed them yet!

Some thief nicked our 19 kg gas bottle within 24 hours of su filling it up. They cut straight through the hose and took bottle and regulator! I think the OP got off lightly but still a pain!

I think I know the site MikeyW, starts with a P and ends with an N, huge commercial site, my brother had washing nicked off his line at that site a few years back, now he always stays at CC sites.

Sounds like you've got it Christopher. We usually stay at CC sites with a couple of exceptions but those aren't huge and we've been going to them for years in tents and vans, with no problems.

By the way we managed to get a new screw top for the aqua roll,

Dear All,

That's unbelievable.

Actually, Milenco launched an 'Accessory Lock' product last year - essentially a steel cable with a padlock attached, to prevent casual theft on site. I said to them I thought it was a bit over the top. Sadly, it looks like I was wrong...

It's incredible how many of these types are out there. I've heard of some of the most seemingly insignificant items being taken randomly.

At the end of the day it is nigh on impossible to leave the caravan unattended and at night the exterior is as vulnerable as ever. I'm just sorry to hear you got burned. Pond life is a good description of these characters!

Marcus.

I think I am about to become paranoid - My wife & I only started seriously started caravanning this year but after reading these posts I sat last night totalling up all of the things that lay around outside the van or in the awning that could be lifted whilst we were away for the day - It will be the same for everyone, from Aquaroll's, through Chairs, satellite dish, water pump, to Wastemaster - it is just not practical to secure them all !

What is wrong with people ? I can understand (though not condone)someone stealing something that would cost them hundreds of pounds - but taking something that costs

I do agree. There are a new generation of people out there who have little regard for anyone else, whether it be property or even behaviour. Maybe they are just copying our glorious MP's who feel that nothing is forbidden. One thing I do note is that they are often not short of cash so why they do it beats me. I do also agree it seems to be more prevalent here in the UK. In France nobody seems to bother about anything and crime is much lower than here.

I admit i have left items outside my van on sites, and so far touch wood have had no problem. I also wonder about motorhome owners who have to leave a lot of stuff on an empty pitch, if they wish to take the vehicle off site.
