This is going to sound odd, but please bear with me.

Does anyone else suffer from creaky bed slats?

We have a 2-berth 1995 Elddis Vogue which we have had for about 4 years now. It's a lovely van, but the only thing that keeps irritating are creaky bed slats when we make up the bed for the night. (And before anyone asks, no its NOT because of nocturnal activities - well, mostly not.).

Its actually loud enough to wake me up if I turn over, and we have to now 'pad' them with blankets to muffle the sound. This all makes the process of making the bed up a real chore.

Just wondered if this was a common problem, or something peculiar to our van. If anyone has any comments, would be very glad to hear them!

Hi, it could be the wooded runners either side of the slats that sit on the edge of the seats, we had the same problem and found that as the weight was put on the slats it caused the runners to move, just a question of opening the bed box and adding a few more screws from the inside to make it stronger, or for a good job remove the runners and fit wood glue to them then refit the screws. :)

Hi Doug,

Is your wife's name Sharman? A long shot but just wondered if you were the Doug we met at Trewethett Farm September 2006?

Cheers

Alan . . . . . . . . . were you, perhaps, kept awake by the squeaking ?

Just a thought,

The slats are bound to move somewhat, so it might be question of lubrication to prevent the creaking.

Strange as it may seem, but the application of some talcum powder to the affected parts may do the trick. Avoid using any thing like petroleum jelly or other paste or fluids as these can make wood creeks worse over time.

I'd use genuine beeswax, you can buy it in blocks from beekeepers. It's good for awning zips as well.
