Hi all!
For the last few years we have spent our main holiday visiting the south coast.
First year based at Hastings then Portsmouth and last year just outside Dawlish, (Cofton holiday Park) I even managed to have a few hours fishing there on a couple of evenings.
We have visited some lovely places using both public transport buses, trains and the car.
This year we are looking further west probably in the St Austel area. Again we would like to be within a reasonable distance from a railway station to enable us to have a few trips out by train.
So the question:-
Can anyone recommend a nice site in this area. We don't mind using CLs CSs club sites or commercial sites in fact at Coften last year we had a fully serviced pitch for the first time it nearly spoiled me, but joking aside we don't mind so long as the site has reasonable reviews or comes recommended.
We hope to start our two weeks around the second week in June give or take a day or two.
thanks in anticipation kind regards. Brian.

The best pitches are 7,8,9,10,11 and 12. All massive and clsoe to the facilities and dog walk which runs for miles down to Pentewen through the Kings woods.
You can specifically reserve pitches, I do.
Have a good time.

Thank's for that Dustydog. I did request a larger pitch when I rang unfortunately none were available so I have been allocated pitch 40 (standard)
I don't believe they are full in early June but because we want 14 nights the standard pitchs are the only ones not pre-booked at some time during our stay.
No problem to us though, the site looks really nice and gets terrific reviews on some of the other forums.
thank you again for your advice.
regards:- Brian

hello again Dustydog.
Thank you again for your advice regarding River Valley. We are booked up for two weeks in early June.
I am hoping you can give me a bit more advice regarding pitching the awning. Do we need to take the hard ground pegs with us or will the standard pegs be ok. I have both but would prefer not to carry the rock pegs if I Don't actually need them. Thank's in anticipation.
We are quite looking forwards to the holiday now we are getting nearer to the date, I have been scouring the Internet for the best Cornish Pasty Shop in the area.

cheers for now Brian.

Brian, hope you enjoy your visit to Cornwall lovely place and loads to do and see.
Brian if you decide to have a day out and decide to visit Fowey and cross the river to Polruan by ferry take extreme care on the slipways, there has been two incidents/accidents there recently one fatal, if you are first in the queue DONT go on the slip until the ferry is in dock, the slipways can be just that very slippery, hope fully they have done something about it by now, it really is a nice drive and area to visit though so hope I havent put you off. Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice. We do expect to visit as many places as possible so we will be extra vigilant if we go to Fowey. We are enjoying the south coast and have taken our main holiday there for the past few years. Starting at Hastings, then Portsmouth, last year Dawlish and this year St Austell. We try to cover as much of the area as we can whilst there. I suppose next year we will be Somewhere around Penzance.
best regards Brian

hi Brian,
picked a gem of a site there mate
smiley-cool.gif
well done Dusty, last time there we were on pitch 4 as it was near the amenities block for the wife, and almost right on the river bank, got 7 nights for the price of 5 so a big saving as well.
while you are in that area, dont forget to visit the "Eden Project", the Minack theater, and the Lost gardens of heligan. all worth a day out all have good restraunts and walks.

Thank you for the reply. Colin
yes we are pleased with the site. Dusty did recommend a couple of pitch numbers but when I booked the lady only was able to offer me a couple of choices so I settled for pitch 40. I don't think they are fully booked but pitches that are clear and not pre booked for a full two weeks must be a bit limited.
we are going to pre book the Eden project before we leave home apparently it is a little cheaper that way. We haven't heard of the Minack theatre so I will look it up on the Internet and perhaps have a look at that also.
regarding restaurants I intend giving a couple of them a ring just before we leave to see if they cater for coeliacs my wife needs to follow a gluten free diet so eating out can be a bit of a challenge but lots of restaurants can cater for it now.
We like to have a few good meals out during our holidays, we usually like to check before actually going in so I usually ring a couple in areas we are stopping.
I have actually come across a place that supplies traditional Cornish Pastys made with gluten free Pastry it is actually in Tintagel but it will be an excuse for a run out one day, somewhere different to visit.
We are also pleased with the deal we got the 14 nights work out at just over £12 per night which I am really pleased with for a site with all the facilities.
Thanks again for the reply Colin.
regards Brian

hi Brian,
your welcome we have spent quite a bit of time in that area over the years, there are really so many places of intrest you could not write them all down, but then thats the fun of touring isn't it,
Heligan is so close you could practically walk there, and there is a farm shop near the gates that sell super fresh produce, I believe the pasty shop you refer to is on the main street in Tintagel near the coop, ps if you fancy a walk down to the beach while there take some walking boots it is a bit of a trek good news is there is a taxi (range rover) that will bring you back up

,
depends how far out of the area you wish to go, and thinking about it the Minack is close to lands end and about 90mins away by car but still well worth a visit, pick a good day though as it's all open air.
we wont be going down untill september this year destination St Just, for a change it's a bit isolated down there but as we don't mind using the car it's not a problem.

Just arrived back from two lovely weeks on the River Valley Site as recommend by Dusty Dog.
I have to agree totally the site is a real Gem!
Dusty even arranged beautiful sunshine for us for the first week however the second week we were back to the weather we are more used too when away on holiday.
The site was busy rather than hectic at weekends but still never had any problem using the facilities, and during the week things were very quiet. We used the swimming pool six times during our stay and only once did we have another couple using it at the same time it was like having our own pool! ( 1st thing on the list when the lottery comes in, our own pool )
We had a look at the static vans that are available for hire and the condition of them is wonderful. All bang up to date and nearly new, perfect also for anyone visiting the site and want friends and relatives who don't own a tourer or tent to share the holiday.
We covered a good deal of the tourist attractions whilst there and I have become a bit of an authority on "the perfect Cornish Pasty"
THE CRIBB BOX In St. Austell gets my vote for best and their Saffron Bunns are also lovely. And we did cover a few miles in search of them. ( my wife's daily comment was "surely you are not having another one today!")
it is perhaps a good thing we did quite a bit of walking and swimming during the holiday.
I'm going to give it a day or two now I am home before getting on the scales!
The forum again has come up trumps for us, each time I have asked for site recommendations we have been more than happy with the sites we have used.
Thanks again to Dusty Dog. Also all who have taken the trouble to comment on my post.
(saving up now for the next outing)

regards to all Brian.
