We would like to keep a caravan in storage in Spain, for possibly a few years, (to be delivered to our chosen site by the storage people)for family holidays.

We don't know if it would be best to buy a Spanish registered caravan over there or to take our own one, towing to Spain is not something we really want to do.

I know that Spanish law says a foreign van must only stay in the country for 6 months but Ive heard they do not enforce this.

Does anyone have any info or experience they could share on this subject, it would be great to hear from you.

Hi Lisa. Most of our friends keep their English caravan in store in Spain and have it delivered to the site. Some have bought new Spanish vans there.Personally If I were you I'd take my own UK van. I have not heard of the law re:6 months. Most of our friends have used the same van for years, (some of them are wrecks!!). Some of them have bought a wide-bod1ed Hobby here and taken it there. The storage sites require paperwork for proof of ownership and insurance purposes. We would never do it, however, as we use our van here but we do go to same Spanish site each year (4 months).

You don't say whether you want to use the caravan as a static or you as a tourer. If it's a static it won't need to be registered in Spain. Especially if you are going to do any touring I'd buy locally. Should you require spares, they'd be a lot easier to come by because, to my knowledge, UK caravans are not generally exported to Spain. If you go for a Continental make, it will also probably be cheaper in Spain than in the UK. By buying locally, you'd save most of the cost of getting it to the site.

Hi Laurie, the more we find out the more we like the idea of keeping a caravan in Spain, I am now in search of a storage site in the Tarragona area or anywhere fairly close to Reus airport. I have found one with uncovered spaces but I would think covered would probably be better.

Which site do you go to? it must be good if you keep going back.

Thanks Lutz, The availability of spares for a UK van is a good point to be considered.

Lisa, there's also a caravan dealer near to Reus airport - we've had a look around and there are some very cheap new vans. They do storage too. It's on the main road from Tarragona south *(near to Salou - but they were road-building there last time we were there so can't give more detailed info).

I can't imagine that you'd need undercover storage as it rains so little in that area you won't have a problem (only dust, and they usually wash vans down before 'delivery' anyway.

Hi Lisa. We go to the Bay of Rosas which is about 40 miles from French border (above Tarragona). The nearest airport is Gerona or Perpignan. Most use Gerona (Ryanair) or motor down from UK.If you are "savvy" you can get flights for 99p. The storage offers: outside, part outside or complete undercover on a sliding scale depending upon van length. You can collect van yourself or have it delivered.

Hi Valerie, I think that is the dealer we passed while we were there in July but didn't have time to stop, I am kicking myself now as I can't find out any details about them.
