To buy or not to buy?

Hello
We are currently caravaners and yesterday went to look at island bed vans. However our attention got diverted to the motorhome section and we ended up coming home trying to decide what to do. We are at a stage where we only have one teenager left to travel with us and that will only be for a few more years at most. The caravan suited us before because the children preferred to be based in one place and travel around. However once we don't have youngsters with us we want to travel about more. However I have always had reservations because I want to be able to access places/park near to attractions and I don't like public transport. Hence favouring caravans to have the freedom of the car. However I would also like to be able to drive the camper because currently I don't tow the caravan and it falls to my husband. I would love people's thoughts - especially from people that have made the change from a caravan to a motorhome. Many thanks

Hi Jallin, welcome.
Take a look at this thread, where someone had a similar question and a few of us have given our thoughts. You may find it helps.

Hello jallin.
Having done both caravanning and motorhoming with teenage boys and in retirement, and having read your opening post, I suggest you stick with a caravan. It's the safe option which is important given the money involved. However, if you intend touring the continent, then a motorhome would be better.
We tour in Britain only nowadays. When we cannot find a parking space for our motorhome, which isn't very often, we simply go elsewhere. We've always used public transport when it suited whether going to work, caravanning or motorhoming. These are issues we don't worry about but understandably you do. You don't want to be worrying on holiday.
We rarely stay at a site more than 3 days, sometimes we use the motorhome for a day out - air shows and truck shows were the boys' favourite which meant a few days in the 'van at the event, and find it much more relaxing to drive than a car - until we fill up with fuel!
Good luck whatever you decide. Make the decision work for you and don't regret it.
