You would think the bottom area where the toilet cassette slots in, there would be a section below to allow water to drain off / through

Seeing how this area is where all the toilet matter is located, it should be easily cleaned with water.

There should be a flap or plug to allow you to clean the inside but there isn’t.

Does anyone clean the inside and how do you clear the remainder water out, so it’s not sitting stagnant?

Yes not a very good design

Have you also got a flap you can pull up also, and there’s nothing under it but another section of plastic

You are emptying the toilet cassette, through the raised tube with the cap.?
Remove cap ( put that somewhere safe, ) invert cassette, point into the waste place, tip and push yellow air release button.

Start breathing normally and replace yellow cap.

Hi Hutch, this isn’t about the actual cassette and how to empty.

It’s the area where you put the cassette

Yeh it’s not a nice experience is it, talk about splash back :ROFLMAO:

Saxo, Ok I understand now, 🤢, We tend to gently slide the lever over, avoiding any blow back.
Learning curve, enjoy your trip without too many problems.

Just been out and pulled out the cassette, just to show what I mean.

Also the plastic panel which serves absolutely no purpose.

Gave it another rinse out with my water can and need to watch as I can see wires to the right.

The back section fills with about 2cm of water on both sides, and under the plastic panel also fills

Exactly the same as mine, had to sponge it out then dry with kitchen roll.

It’s very odd isn’t it for a design?

You would think as this needs cleaned, there would be an easier way than sponging out water filled cavities.

I used to occasionally wipe my cassette locker with a J cloth and water with some detergent . It didn’t seem to get that dirty and I wasn’t aware of anything coming out of the cassette.

We’ve had several caravans over the years but the Swift we had from 2018 to 2022 was worst for this. I concluded that the cassette seal didn’t seal properly against the underside of the toilet bowl. Changing the seal made no difference so I just used to clean it out with kitchen towel after each trip.

When I bought my caravan there were two small bottles of Thetford toilet fluid and Thetford flush fluid inside the compartment under the flap. Way too small to be of any practical use but, useful in an emergency if you ran out of fluids I suppose.

I used the small bottles if we were away for a long weekend. Just topped them up before leaving home.

Seems like a load of water - which at least is clean (!) - but are you sure this is not from a leaking connection in the flush piping - or rain from the outer door?
In my van I occasionally get a bit of flush water from the bowl when the cassette is removed (it’s pink so easy to identify) but I’ve never seen large drips and puddles like your photos.

If you read post 9 he says he has just rinsed it out, hence the water in compartment.

There is only a depth of about 2-3cm, not enough room for bottles
Really?

Thank you otherclive, I thought I'd dreamt it for a moment.
They were tiny bottles only holding 100ml of rinse and 120mm of concentrate fluid purely for emergency use as I remember. The storage compartment was put there specifically to store these bottles under the cassette. The Thetford Mini Concentrate Duo Pack is still available.
The SOG ventilation kits vent through the cassette hatch door, not the bottom of the compartment.
