I have a Tom Tom 700 about 3 years old and I was hoping to update the maps through the Tom Tom website.

The only downloads I can find are costing about £70.

Am I looking at the right thing? This seems a heck of a lot to just update my maps!

Has anyone updated their maps, and if so how?

First of all go to the Tomtom website and download Tomtom home. Once installed, if you connect your device to the computer it will automatically open up the programe and a window will offer you options. One of these options will be to update to the new version. You get one free update. I have just done this myself and noticed several new features as well as the map updates. I think it brings your device more or less in line with the newer Tomtom 720. Hope this is of help.

Thank's for the replies. I think I've managed to update my maps at last. As suggested I downloaded TomTom Home and found a way through the maze.I had Western Europe maps but I've found them to be out of date on a lot of roads (the road I'm driving on is a field according to the map).

My version now is 6.520, does this mean the maps are up to date?

Clive,

If you've installed TomTom Home version 2 - one of the features of that software is an "inventory" checker - and this will tell you if the maps are current or out of date... Use the Home menu function "File - use latest map guarantee"

If you look at the TomTom GO 700 system information from the Home menu - you should see something like this:

LinuxVersion=2327

ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7162

ApplicationVersion=8492

Hello Again Clive. My tomtom Go700 is also about 3yrs old.

My new map is Western Europe v710.1561 and the op system is now 7.162, so its looks as if your map is out of date. I bought the map direct from the Tomtom website by clicking on the "upto 50%" offer ie "Home" did not tell me that my map was out of date, although it DID tell me that the op system was obsolete. After I had paid (by CC), "Home" took over and downloaded the map and installed it.
