After having my trusty old Tomtom Go 300 stolen last year, I decided to replace it with a Tomtom One Europe version. In the UK I have had no problems, but in France what a different story. I am one of the social pariahs that has a 4x4 but even when solo I turned my back on some of the routes it suggested, god only knows how many unsuspecting soles have ploughed on regardless and are even now floundering around deep in the French interior.

The blxxdy thing just seemed to take every back way it could find, despite picking the quickest option, it would persist in taking small country lanes. I guess the trouble is to much information, as the older model only had the Main routes of Europe installed. This new version even has private house drives on it in some places.

Steve we use a garmin and does the same in France, nearing your destination. 3 years ago with my old garmin unit we were getting close to the camp site so off the main road we went, then off the b type road we went, were now on a single track road and im worried with van in tow. All of a sudden the dam thing says turn left onto unmarked road, untracked was not the word it was a footpath through a field. We didnt take the track and carried on eventually comming to the village where the camp site was after going through a farm yard with farmer shaking his head in disbelief.

We now always check the route before setting off and change where nessesary.

We used our Tom Tom one Europe in Brittany this year and had no problems with it at all, took us to exactly where we wanted all the time with no dodgy routes, i'd recommend it to anyone and over here it's brilliant, it even found blea moor signal box and that takes some doing.

We used our Tom Tom Europe in Brittany in August and it was mainly ok But: on our return journey back to St Malo it took us off the dual carriage way and gave us a tour of several very pretty villages and hills and valleys before putting us back onto the same dual carriage way 25 minutes later and 8 miles further on. A few miles on it went loony and took us off again down a road that got smaller and smaller until we were going along a twin track with a grass centre. I ploughed on past a farm and barking dogs and sure enough we got back onto the correct route. It never said once to turn around so where was the error?
