Hi all, I was just wondering if there's a programme that does road tests for affordable cars any more. You see, every time I watch Top Gear they seem to be blasting around in cars costing £100,000 or more and whilst this can be entertaining, it does little to inform me of what the trends are in my price range. Last night they were in the Syrian desert in sports cars. Ok, it raised a few chuckles but I do think James May looks a bit embarrassed on occasion. Now I really do think he is an extremely talented individual who would, in my opinion, be more suited to presenting a more serious motoring programme of his own. Yes, let's continue to see the top end in case the numbers come up, but let's not ignore the other end to which most of us are restricted to. Seasonal greetings, Butler.

The cars used only cost them around 3K each.

Top Gear is a topica, irreverant "chat" show and no longer a car review show.
If you want car reviews take a look at 5th Gear on er ch5 i think .

I don't think it has ever been a proper car review show. Ch5 offers better reviews on cars that the ordinary man in the street can afford.

There is absolutely no point in watching any TV programme to get a car review - yes, 5th Gear is better but they might to do one test a week on 3 brand new cars - hardly useful. A TV programme will never have the time to provide a useful review for the huge range of cars out there.

If you want reasonable reviews on normal cars, buy What Car magazine and use their website - job done.

Top Gear (and 5th gear to a lesser extent) is just entertainment to cheer up a drab evening. It's one of the few decent things on telly these days and even though the recent 2 episodes were below par for their standards, still better than 5th Gear by a country mile. In fact, it surprises me that there are no other similar programmes, considering how many people like cars - I could easily watch a couple of car/driving programmes a week on TV...

they bang on about not liking caravans but both James May and the hamster have both had caravans in their past, in fact Hammond has brought out a very funny book all about caravans, which i bought and passed round several caravanning freinds, most enjoyable! i totally agree that TOP GEAR is a great entertainment show and i would never miss an episode, light entertainment for todays mad paced life. what gets me is that i rarely pay over 5 thousand for a car, the TOP GEAR show regularly trashes nice (if slightly old) usable cars. along with a whole load of caravans, well one persons rubbish is anothers gold i suppose!
happy new year all

It may be available still on sky?

Top gear was ok when Raymond Baxter had the show, to day it's just "X" factor tripe.
