One of the items I have just looked at said "Topic Locked". There were only a handful of posts and none of these seemed offensive. What does "Topic Locked" mean and why is it used?

My guess, as a former mod on a couple of other forums, would be that the topic had generated 1 or more contentious replies. These replies may have been removed (hence why you couldn't see anything troublesome), but the topic may have contained valuable information that would benefit members. The mods may therefore have taken the decision to leave the topic, but lock it so that no further, possibly contentious, replies could be added. Of course, a mod may soon be along to tell you a different story! lol

Topic Locked means that it's not possible to add further posts to a locked topic.
I think that the topic was locked by Damian as a housekeeping measure to prevent the same topic from repeatedly cropping up all over the forum.
From what I've seen a question was asked about snaking and Damian directed the o.p. to an earlier topic which dealt with exactly the same issue in another section of the forum.
The earlier topic generated 87 replies and to prevent the same technical but i.m.o. not particularly helpful argument between forum members taking place the topic appears to have been locked rather than deleted because there was no problem with the question.

I can confirm that I locked the topic referred to for the reason stated by Parksy.
The topic is well discussed in Technical and having the same points put across in multiple areas of the forum is very unhelpful.

Might I suggest that if the moderators wish to lock a topic in the way they have for the thread mentioned above, perhaps a posting telling us why at the bottom of the thread from the Mod would be both be courteous and informative, and tell any interetsed readers where to look.

Errrrmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,I "think" if you looked at my reply to the OP as to where to look for the very long, very technical replies, it just may have twigged with others that the topic has been talked to death elsewhere.

Lutz managed to get the gist and referred the OP to the particular topic too, but aded some informative info about the Merc as a towcar.

It was only when it appeared that it was going down the same road as the original topic in Technical that I locked it for that very reason.

Hello Damian,

I'm not questioning your reasons for locking this particular thread, and yes, your reply half way down the thread did point to the alternative thread, but it was not the last post, and so the reason for locking may have been something else, or it may have been locked by someone else. I feel it would clarify the situation in the future if the mod who locks a thread just leaves a brief note of explanation, as has happened previously when threads were removed under the last forum engine.
