I don't know about an itinerary. We have only been to France twice and tended to stay each time for a lengthy period on one site and toured from there. This September we majored in the Dordogne at 'Le Moulin du Bleufond' in Montignac. This was a very good former municipal site with excellent facilities and within very easy walking distance of the town which was 'braw'. Sarlat, Perigord and Bergerac were all easy to get to (although Bergerac was a disappointment). Montignac is on the River Vezere and is nearto neolithic caves and towns. Also kayaking on the river is worth a try. Stopped on the Loire on the way down, also. Last year we stayed in Provence in Castellane on a site called 'Camp du Verdon' This is a Castel site and has all the facilities you need. The nearby Gorge du Verdon is also 'braw' and is the european Grand Canyon. Castellane is a lovely town with several eateries and a lively market. Although we prefer Italy, we have loved our holidays in France and intend to visit the two countries each year. Bon vacances!!

Sounds great. Unfortunately as I am still of "working" age the most I have been able to have at one time is 3 weeks. would suggest that you find yourself a starting and finishing point (you could sail to and from different ports) and then pinpoint where you would like to go in between. During May and June we have never found sites fully booked so you do have the freedom of turning up and leaving when you like. I would suggest that you wait til you are at a site before deciding how long to stay there. If there is not much to do in that location you can then always move on to the next one. I also like to have details of two or three sites in the same location handy so that if we turn up at one which is absolutely awful you can just stop for the one night if necessary while you go and check out the others. Last year we sailed into Santander, had a few days in spain and then travelled through France stopping at Biarritz, Royan, Brittany and lastly Normandy before sailing home from Cherbourg. Hope you have a good time.

If it were me I'd do Loire - Dordogne - Lot - Gorges du Tarn/Millau/Jonte area - Mediterranean (Grau du Roi is most 'French' town in that area of the med)and Camargue, then Ardeche, and home via Burgundy! If you've got six weeks then that's plenty of time, with not too much travelling between areas on your 'moving' days.

As far as sites go, we usually use Camping Cheques (rather than the Caravanning and Camping Club freedom cheques) and an ACSI card, and I don't know what sites are offered by the CCC. We spent 4/5 days on three sites this year, in two weeks. We didn't put the awning up once, because it was so hot we didn't need it, leaving our table and chairs, mini-fridge and other bits and pieces outside without any problems at any of the sites.
