hi google X5 tow bars seek type you want double it for fitting and electrics should give you approximate cost, £600 seems a bit steep
but above all shop round

I would make sure it is FULLY wired electrics, i.e. fridge and battery charging wired up. A lot of dedicated wiring looms just have wiring for the lights.

I fitted the genuine towbar to my brother's X5 and it was a doddle. Took about 2 hours all in but does require removing the rear bumper and also cutting the lower lip of it.
If you were to fit yourself, rather than buy from BMW, go to Westfalia who make them for BMW. The detachable towbar is fully ALKO compatible.
Wiring kit is relatively easy as long as you can follow instructions. As well as the plug in part you also have to solder some piggyback connectors on to the CAN bus wires. Make sure they supply the socket which swivels up out of sight when not being used.
£599 fitted is not a bad price considering what has to be done TBH. I wouldn't have bothered getting the tools out for that money but back when I did it the going rate was almost a grand.

Ordered a Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4 in June, going to be built in November, delivery December!! Ordered a tow bar and electrics to be fitted.
Tow bar preparation, factory fit wires from fuse box through the canbus system and connectors at the rear of car (for road lights only) £125.00
Fixed tow bar £320.00 to be fitted by professional external fitter. Removable, a lot more!
Electrics 1. £95.83 (Skoda, with relays and heavy duty wire to battery for fridge and battery charging)
Electrics 2. £54.17 (Skoda, road lighting)
Total £595.00.
Bypass systems from tow bar companies, are a lot cheaper. To late now.
