Well ...just had a MOT and the tow bar and electrics were examined and the electrics declared faulty....strange as its only 18 months on this vehicle, but the station said that the side lights wern't working ..but hey ho it wasn't a total failure only an advisory ( for now). So I'm lucky enough to have in the garage an old trailer board from my days of loading bikes on the back of the car...and plugged it in ...and lo and behold everything works..wierd.I can only think that plugging in and taking out the leads 'polished' up the socket points..so my advice is get the wire brush out and make sure those pins are sparkling before the advisory turns into a fail there and then.

Was that the 12n socket or 13pin socket ?

Trailer/caravan electrical socket
There will be a basic security/damage check of 7-pin sockets,
13-pin sockets will be subject to a full electrical connectivity check and incorrectly connected or inoperative circuits will result in failure.

"yes" because A the socket is still attached and B you still have a tow bar fitted, however only the 13pin socket should be checked for continuity on the MOT 12n and 12s plugs will only have the security checked as the equipment used by testers only has a 13pin plug on it at present,

the testing socket actually has the choice of testing both plugs on it , thr 7 pin and 13 pin , you plug an adaptor on it , it comes in a kit , but its not part of the mot yet
