towing vehicle freelander station wagon

Hi to all, I hope someone can help me.I am thinking of changing my citreon picasso 2.0 Diesel 05 to a Landrover station wagon 1.8se petrol 05.

can anyone please advise me if this would tow a 4/5 berth sterling cruach cullin 2001 model better than my faithful citreon.

Hi we have got a 99 freelander station wagon it is prob the best tow car ive had i did have a 1.8 mondeo but found this underpowered as i already had the freelander we decided to put a towbar on and try that where the mondeo struggled the freelander flies we have a 22 1/2 ft avondale grampian 4 birth carl

I'm afraid I can't comment on the tow match.

What I can add is that if you want "faithful" do not get a Freelander, unless you have deep pockets. Our 02 TD4 Freelander has been in the garage all week and is still under investigation by a "top" technician at

Do yourself a favour. Don't buy an 1.8 petrol Freelander they are known to have head gasget problems and are avoided by many.

I have a 06 Freelander 2.0 TD4 (Diesel) and would not tow with anything else, it is a brilliant tow car. My caravan is 23ft 3in long with an MTPLM of 1500 and it tows it no problem at all.

You have been warned DON'T BUY THE PETROL FREELANDER.

Special thanks to Carl,Chelsea and Graham this will put my mind at ease.Graham I've seen 3 other freelanders 2 of which are 2.0 diesel TD4 hardback I might enquire into the diesel ones.So you would say it would be better 2.0 diesel to my 2.0 citreon picasso diesel

Don't buy a 1.8 petrol freelander, we had to sell ours when it couldn't pull our 5 berth Ace up the main A23 in anything higher than 2nd gear!

This was with only 2 of us and the dog in the car, and only minimal payload in the van, not even an awning as we hadn't bought it by then.

The diesels, I believe are good, but avoid the 1.8 petrol like the plague

We had a diesel automatic Freelander, at 5 years old the turbo went and then the vehicle had 1 thing after another go wrong. Changed for a 2005 Kia Sorento now which tows superbly, had it 2 years now and no problems at all.

As already said do not buy the petrol Freelander. I have only driven them as a courtesy car while my TD4 was being serviced, I felt it could hardly pull itself along let along tow a caravan. I have however towed with the Diesel Freelander TD4 for the past nine years with no problems. If you want a Freelander only buy the diesel version.

I can't comment on the Picasso as I have never owned one sorry. You may find the freelander not as comfortable a ride as the picasso being a 4x4 but I don't have any problems with it. Fuel consumption is very good, my wife used to have a 1.6 ford focus just to drive to work and back home again, when we had the freelander she was spending less on fuel a month than with the focus.

A couple of years ago we had a heavy snow fall during the day when we were both at work, we live on top of a mountain, my company car could not get up the hill, along came my wife in the freelander stopped on a steep part of the road, we hooked up my car with a tow rope and she pulled me all the way home up the hill, I couldn't belive it.

If you do get a freelander I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy ours.

I have a 1.8 petrol freelander 2004 model, bought from new & haven't had any problems with it all. Due to getting a comany car shortly I will have to sell it & I will be very sorry to see it go. We (me, wife & 3 children) tow a Compass Corona 505, including awning etc & I find it a great tow car. I know that some members of this forum have had problems and I can only speak for myself - but I think its great.
