Hi

can anyone tell me the kerb weight of a Toyota Surf 3.0td SSRX Ltd automatic 1994 and also the noseweight.

I have been advised from another list to try the Toyota HiLux site, which I did and searched, but can't find a definitive answer.

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a surf for myself and have visited a garage that deals with imports of this type. I believe the kerb weight is in the region of 2500kgs and i think the nose weight is round about 150kgs the same as a Frontera. I was wondering what you get to the gallon as i have a new Bailey Pageant Bretagne which is a six berth and wondered what mileage i can expect. The van has a MTPLM of 1409kgs.

It is impossible to get accurate kerbweight figures for any vehicle because they depend so much on the specification of each individual car. Differences of over 200kg are not uncommon, even for variants of the same model.

Because of the legal implications of max. towloads and noseweights, it's best to get official documentation, either straight from the manufacturer or, in the case of grey imports, from the importer or somebody else who's already obtained such data. Maybe the www.hiluxsurf.co.uk website can help.

Hi John

had it a week now. It is thirsty, especially compared to the Vectra diesel it replaced, although towing was effortless.

Driving locally on short trips, we got 20, towing from Northampton to Broadway accross country without hurrying was down to 17.

However, tyres are oversized 265x70. What effect would this have on the mileometer, if any? I will check the mileometer anyway against my satnav this weekend as we are going solo to Calais to top up the wine.

Met a "Surf" driver with large commercial trailer, car had LPG conversion where the diesel is mixed with LPG, I don't know the pro's and cons of the conversion. But the owner had been running back and forth to Tuscany for two years, costs with LPG were good and the car ran better.

Hi, had a surf myself, 2.4 Auto, Would'nt recommend anyone thinking of towing a large van with a 2.4, go for a 3.0.

The 2.4's are proned for the cylinder heads cracking when they get hot and curling up on all 4 corners.

Also make sure you get your weights correct.....We had a Bailey Senator Wyoming, went to Brittany, head gasket went, caravan club gave red pennant assistance but argued that car and caravan were not suitable match, I cant quite recall the % but it was way out.

Just to report back on mpg and mileometer. Set the satnav from Dover to Northampton and the mileometer reads about 5% less than the actual miles shown on the satnav, which I assume is far more accurate. Not sure whether this is down to the over-sized tyres. That would make our towing mpg just under 20 and given that we were on back roads with lots of villages to slow us down, is ok.

Fuel consumption solo back from France was good, especially as we were loaded with 220 bottles of wine (hicc!). Steady 70mph = 28mpg, which I am pleased with.

Anyone looking for information on the SURF, go to www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/

They have a forum where you can find everything you need. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed towing and yes they are a terriffic tow car.

Follow the SURF code and keep smiling and waving.
