As I really don't like using public transport, I was dreading going home by tram and then by bus yesterday.

Anyway, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. You can get an all day ticket to use the trams and buses for £3 - bargain.

I'd never been on a tram before (I do remember seeing them in Nottingham many many years ago when we came back to the UK briefly - not that I'm old or anything).

Guess what? The tram was air conditioned, nice comfy seats, even a conductor on board AND this is the best bit - they give you change if you haven't got the exact fare. I was well impressed.

Can't say the same for the journey on the hot, sticky bus with cramped seats though.

Anyone else got trams where they live?

Hello Lisa

We have a tram in Sheffield. Yes, great if you want to go to Meadowhall Shopping Centre BUT rubbish if you have to visit either of the 2 main teaching hospitals. NOW GET THIS ---- all University students can attend lectures, etc., thanks to the convenience of the TRAM setting down on campus!!! To me it is a useless space of travel! As you can see I am very annoyed by all the spending and chaos in the City curing the build! To me it is a complete waste of space! AND at

Hi Lisa,

I live in Blackpool and we've got more trams than you can shake a stick at.

It's funny but in summer they are always full of holidaymakers, yet the council reckon they don't make a profit!

Makes you wonder how many council

Ronlors own scrap yards!

As Anne says, here in Sheffield we have the Supertram system and the chaos caused when they were building it brings a shudder even all these years later. The tram is very comfortable, smooth and pleasant but it wasn't properly thought out here. You have to drive or catch a bus to reach it so it rather defeats the object. When my twins were little I used it quite a lot as the low access was very easy with a double buggy but, as I live at the top of a hill, the walk back home afterwards laden down with shopping wasn't much fun.

They should have routed it to cover the hospitals as parking at our hospitals is absolutely dreadful, particularly at the Children's Hospital to which people come from far and wide. My son recently had a skateboarding accident and was admitted there for a couple of nights. In an 6 bed ward, he was the only one from Sheffield. All the others were from out of town, some as far away as Skegness and all had trouble parking. If the tram went past the hospital, more people would use it, leaving what little parking is available for those who have to bring their car.
