Whenever I operate the Ultrastore water heater on gas, it pleases itself whether it lights or not. It will sometimes work for 5 minutes then go off but requires many tries to get it lit and to stay lit.

I have tried operating it on its own (ie no fridge or hob on) to ensure it has maximum gas pressure whilst warming up from cold but this seems to have little effect.

Fridge lights first time and there is plenty of gas in the bottle so I guess my question is are there any tips as I seem to spend the first couple of hours after set up fiddling to get it going.

Van is Pageant Series 5 and it has been serviced every year since new at approved workshop and yes I have removed the cover from the vent (!)

Thanks in anticipation.

I'm not 100% if they have serviced the water heater but will check the paperwork when we go back to the van later on as they gave us schedules each time.

I presumed they would have done though.

There is no need to take bets on whether or not the heater was "serviced" on an annual service.

It was NOT.

All that was done was it was lit and checked to see if it heated the water and should have been checked to see if the flame pattern was correct.

Truma say that is all that is necessary and that the heater should not be interfered with unless it is not working.

As the Ultrastore is a basically fully sealed unit, to service it means taking it completely out of thevan and stripping it down, etc then rebuilding and refitting.

This certainly is not part of an annual service.

All gas appliances are not "serviced" in the context of a full strip down. They are simply checked for operation and correct flame picture.

The better service technicians will also do a flue gas analysis to ensure the appliance is actually burning the gas correctly.(but as that is not an requirement on the NCC AWS schedule it is very doubtful any dealer workshop will do that test.)

If a full service on those appliances are wanted the owner must inform th eservice agent and they wil incur an extra cost to the owner.

Well no surprises there, it wasnt covered in the service.

I spent plenty of time messing with heater and think its related to the wind blowing on the vent, I protected it with the car and it went okay.

Has anyone else had these types of issues or might it be I do need a "proper" service of the unit.
