Hi,

Just wondering if someone could give me some advice on buying a charger and how easy it is to install it, i know what I am doing with electrics, but this is my first time restoring a caravan, and just noticed the other day that my 230v hook up only powers one socket and my fridge, theres no link to the battery. I would prefer the hook up to charge the battery if we was to be parked up for a week.

any advice would be greatful
Thanks

Not my strong point is electric's but just a thought does your fridge work on gas and 12volt? ie; charging from car when travelling
The ignition for the gas on my van is run by 12 volt.

hi Nib,
the simplist way is to add some extra 230v sockets, using EHU grade mulistrand wire and trunking, fitting one under the bunk somewhere near the battery box, obtain a smart charger and fit this under the bunk with the wires going into the box from the inside.
then when the battery goes flat just connect the charger, plug in and switch on. and charge the battery from the EHU.
alternatly you could obtain a ZIG unit and do a complete wiring job on the whole electrics it depends how involved you want it to be!!!

As you can see from the above picture when i restored our old 1986 Lunar Micron i used the consumer unit that came with the van (not sure if it was standard equipment back then) and sited a 240v socket under the seats at the front next to the battery box that way i could plug in a C-Tec charger, i kept the fridge and kettle socket on one circuit and charger and tv socket on another.

lots of other restoration pics if you or anyone else wants to see them.

Are you sure you have the year right. We had a 1983 Trophy and that had a charger fitted. I think Trophy went out of business before 1991.

I used the numbers found on window, and was told it was 1991, not sure if thats right, not too bothered, would be interesting to find out the real year,

the actual year may be stamped on the chassis plate somewhere we were lucky enough with our old lunar to have the original book pack with original bill of sale.

Taken from the CRIS websiteWelcome to CRiS
CRiS (the Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme) was established in 1992 by The National Caravan Council and provides a method of registering the ‘keeper’ details of every tourer manufactured by NCC member companies to help prevent and detect caravan related crime.
All new tourers are assigned a unique 17 digit CRiS Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is die stamped into the chassis, etched onto windows and recorded onto an electronic tag embedded within the bodywork.

Also look on the axle in the middle we have a plate there riveted on.
The above states it started in 1992
smiley-undecided.gif

The 10th digit in the code states the year for example;
SGAS000AV50001234 Year of manufacture (5 = 2005) - see below for codes
SGAS000AV50001234 Serial number

Year of manufacture codes:
N = 1992
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997
W = 1998
X = 1999
Y = 2000
1 = 2001
2 = 2002
3 = 2003
4 = 2004
5 = 2005
6 = 2006
7 = 2007
8 = 2008
