Is there any knowledgeable 'techie' who could recommend a "True" 0.3db LNB for an Elliptical Dish.

The very helpful technical people at Maxivew have suggested that this might improve our signal in Europe using their Omnisat 66 Dish. Unfortunately they don't supply one at the moment.

Non techie replies please as I don't really understand it all...

Thanks for any help

Nick

Before spending out loads of dosh on a maybe have you been through all the advice at http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/

We found accurate compass bearing gave better results than a signal finder. Maplins ( www.maplin.co.uk } may be able to help and they have online ? and help

Thanks for the advice. Checked out all the web sites I could find and read through loads of Forum Threads , making a general nuisance of myself with dumb questions. What I am expecting the 0.3 LNB to do is provide a slightly better signal in fringe areas and not make the setting up easier.

I found Maxview and others to be less than informative.

I recently fitted the Maxview Semitronic with a twin 0.3 LNB so as to be able to get Sky+

I had the same "suitable for an elliptical" dish from Max and when I enquired about a spigot adaptor from another source I was told that there was no point as it wouldn't work with an eliptical dish.My house dish was so equipped and by Sky and worked OK.

I used a 0.3 Invacom single LNB on the older round Maxview dish and I have the Invacom twin LNB on the Semitronic elliptical.Far from not working the signal strength and quality are far better than on any other dish home or away that I have used in over a decade of "playing" with Sky analogue and digital/

So what you need is a spigot adapter which is readily availabe from Sky installers and a 40mm 0.3 such as the Invacom

I'm know satellite TV expert, but as the things are in the sky above, I understand that getting a good picturs comes partly with pointing the thingamebob in the right direction.

We found we had a quick setup but crappy picture at times, friends spent loads of money and still had problems until they used advice from the afore mentioned web site after a talk and demonstration from felow vanners in south of Spain. There very basic car boot set-up gave them clear pictures, sat signal finder found a picture but could be very poor.

The sat finder has no bearing on the picture quality BUT it helps you to find the sat much easier and quicker.

Saying a sat finder does/doesn't do A B or C is a bit like saying a screwdriver etc. There are different sat finders (the dearer the better---no surprise there)

My present one can be programmed for Sky and will only lock onto that one .It then has signal strength and quality readings and can be used without the digi box.

You can fine tune using the digi box signal strength/quality display as well of course .

What determines the quality received by any given system is the patient movement of the dish for direction and elevation.

What we are asking of a 0.3 LNB is to make the most of the signal but the thing that makes the most difference as the signal weakens is the size of the dish.

In Spain(Barcelona) I bought an 80 cm dish(0.7LNB) and so did my friend.

He could get ITV with his Grundig digi box and his dish and with my dish . I couldn't get it on my Pace box with either dish BUT with the 0.3 LNB I could get it.

So digi boxess vary as well as dishes and LNB

The Sky mini dish is very good indeed .

We had a guy on one rally with two dishes : a Sky mini and an 80cm.

He got a good picture (strength and quality) with the mini dish but a better one with the bigger dish.

So what you want for the optimum quality is as big a dish as you find manageable with as good an LNB as possible matched to a good digi box.It also important to set it up on a tripod etc so that its vertical.

These factors are really critical if you go to southern Europe or the north of Scotland. In the England and Northern France the car boot bargains work well----I got a mini dish, cable, brackets and digi box for
