I recently bought a second hand 2003 caravan fitted with a Truma Mover. Three questions please.

1. Should the rollers be centred on the tyres, mine appear to be towards the chassis?

2. Are the rollers a DIY replacement option?

3. When I use the mover it will only move in about 5 second bursts. When disengaged the rollers run continuously. The caravan battery is fully charged and the remote control batteries seem in good condition.

Hi Norman,

The rollers are very easy to replace but it sounds as if you need an auto electrician to give things a look over, thinking on I reckon thats the best thing to do.Jim

hi norman when we were in portugal earlier this year there was a lady who had towed her med van over 350 miles with the truma roller connested to her tyres (she was towing witha 3l iszu trooper) didn't notice a thing.one tyre had been shot away and both rollers.she was lucky a freind of hers was coming out and bought new roller with her. after taking the centre bolt out it was just a matter of taking them off the centre stud which is only about 10cm long the problem was they were rusted and only by soaking them with wd40 for a week then just brut force we manged to get them off, the new ones went back fine with plenty off greese.moral of this story is always put the engaging sockett on the drivers seat!!! as foe your other problem chech the battery conections they need to be very firm but saying that when we were looking for a mover ourselves we did think the truma was very jerky in use and diffucult to move the van slightly just a few cm we bought a powertouch very pleased with it. regards peter happy vanning

I have just fitted a secondhand Truma mover to my caravan and both motors are fitted with overloads(two brown wires from each motor as well as the positive and negative). It could be that for some reason the motors are being overloaded and they are cutting out correctly.Does the electronic control unit have a reset button? The operating and installation book is not very helpful about fault finding but their phone number is

01283 528201 they should be able to help.

Norman Hope this helps as I had a similar problem - then realised what was causing the 5 second cutouts. Across the bottom of the outer jockey wheel tube there is a groove and the arms which hold the actual rotating wheel get jammed in it and locks the wheel - this causes the wheel to jam and will build up pressure - causing the motors to trip every five seconds. By the time I had realised the cause the solid wheel had a 'flat' segment around the circumference of the jockey wheel. Due to a slight slope on my drive I need to fully lower the jockey wheel to level the caravan, now I give it a couple of turns and have no problems at all. Check this on your van and repy to tell me if this is the problem. Cheers, Tony

Our caravan came fitted with a mover and when we tried it with our existing batteries it again would only go for so long then cut out and need resetting at the control box. What it needed was a big battery, got a new 110amp one, old one was 75 and 4 years old. Goes like a good one now no stopping it.
