Took my caravan (2005 Abbey Expression 520) to Rutland last week only to find electric heater (Truma Ultraheat S3002) not working (gas is OK). Checked that mains is OK and green light is on on the regulating swich on all three settings (500, 1000 and 2000W). OK up to that point. I have taken the heater apart and checked the heating elements visually they are OK and mains supply is getting to the printed circuit board but not to the elements. Is the pcb the problem (£73 for new) or should I be looking elsewhere first?
Rutland was lovely and would recommend it, especially to twitchers.

Hi You should start by checking the temp limiter and temp control sensor. If you can get to the pcb board and you have a multimeter, without power on, check that you have continuity between the two black wires and then between the green and blue wires. No continuity means the componant has failed. Two black wires - temp limiter. Green/Blue wires - temp control sensor. Each one is replaced fairly easily. If both sensors are good then suspect the pcb relays.

If you have removed the gas heat exchanger to gain access to the electric elements you MUST fit a new flue sealing ring and get the gas installation pressure tested.

Hope this helps.

Took the words right out of my mouth Mark?!... you did though fail to mention I overhaul control boards a lot cheaper than new prices, also better!

Hi Gary, You know that my heater problems come to you. I have said it on various forums and will say it again "If Gary can't fix it you may as well put it in the bin".
I have only today joined this forum and this was the first post that I came across, I hope my reply has been helpful.
Thanks again Gary for the help that you have given me in the past and it is nice to see people helping others. None of us would be able to better ourselves if it wasn't for people like you that are willing to help.

Thanks Mark and Gary
I have checked continuity on the two sensors and both are OK, as is continuity through the heating elements. I did a further check with power on and the large grey component on the pcb which I assume is a relay, has power on one side, but nothing on the other. Which probably confirms your diagnosis.

Gary, you say you repair these components and sell them much cheaper than new. Would you kindly supply your contact details, I would like to take up your offer if you have a spare. I will of course send you my duff one in exchange.
Mark, noted you comment re the seal on the gas side.
Thank you both for your fast responses which are most helpful.

Thank you again Mark, I have to add though, contact only by email until the middle of next week, currently I have far more use for those sunglasses than heating?
