Jusy back from a great weekend, but had a problem with the Truma Ultrastore. It works fine on GAS, but will not work on electric. It switches on, but after a few seconds it clicks off and the red failure light comes on in the panel.

i have tried disconnecting the mains and waiting for a few minutes, draining the heater tank etc.

Any ideas !

I also noticed that my kitchen taps (hot + cold) will not work unless the shower tap (hot or cold)is on (have the microswitch activated). This may or may not be connected to the problem with my boiler.

When i disconnected my water pump, a lot of water came flowing out - is this normal?

any ideas, suggestions!

Anthony, are you sure you are operating it correctly? On my ultra store the mains element is completely seperate and switched on via a switch is the control box. I think the switch you refer to is the gas control switch which will show red when there is no gas and green if its ignited correctly. Sorry if I misunderstand what you are describing.

With regards to the taps I would suggest that if it is a mixer tap that the micro switch in the kitchen is faulty, or if two seperate taps then both of them or a wire come loose. I don't think it has anything to do with the boiler.

Ray, you are right - I got my controls mixed up !!!!

It works fine on electricity , but the RED failure light comes on after a few seconds when I try it on gas. The bottle is Ok as the cooker works fine on the same gas.

Any ideas what is could be

thanks for your help

Common reason for the gas side not to work, (apart from no gas), is the 'winter cover' outside over the flue has not been removed. Being a solid cover to keep everyhing out it means little air can enter so the gas simply will not light. It's just a matter of pulling this cover off to expose the normal vented cover underneath.

Anthony, is it possible that the gas isolator for the heater is switched off? In my van their are four in a bank inside the under sink cupboard. Failing that is it possible that it has not been used on gas for some time and it is just a matter of time to let the gas get through by switching it on a number of times before it eventually ignites?

Guys,

Thanks for all your help and assistance.

The cover is off and i checked that my gas isolater valve is switched on.

The boiler tries to fire up, but it would seems as if there is either no gas getting through or maybe the piezo (or whatever ignites the gas) is not working !

I think it was a long time since it was operated on gas.

Any further ideas !

Anthony, I guess the next step is to get a competent person to confirm that gas is actually getting to the unit and if so determine what is happening. If you go to the Truma web site there is a list of their agents in each county. Ray

Had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago. Water heater and fridge didn,t work on gas. Checked everything I could and resigned myself to having to take for a checkup. Following weekend both fired up no problems. I suspect there must have been an airlock that dislodged itself with movement? Perhaps you have the same problem. Have you tried disconnecting the gas bottle and starting a fresh. It might not work but could be worth a try.

Thanks guys.

Sorted now.

It seems to have been either something loose on the circuit board or just took a long while for the gas to some through

Thanks for all your help and advice

Hi,

Your problem is your battery on your caravan which is not putting enough voltage out to the igniter on your Ultrastore, basically you need a fully charged 12v battery which activates the igniter on the Ultrastore and if there is not enough voltage say less than 12v the igniter goes to lockout. You will probably find that when you are hooked up to electric and the trickle charger on your caravan is charging your caravan battery that the heater probably works fine, if it does and it doesn't work when you not on electric hook up then this will prove that its your battery. Dont be fooled by the battery indicator in the caravan as this is not acurate enought indicator.

Cheers Robin
