Truma Water Pump

Feel a bit of a twit in asking with what I suspect is a straight forward solution, but how do you secure the jubilee type clip to a Truma water pump.
As I brocken the blue trigger type unit on the part of the water pump that comes out of the Aqua roll and fits into the side of the caravan I purchased a new Truma pistol grip unit. Nice packaging, put no instructions!
Taken it apart OK, but it comes with a small half inch type jubilee clip to hold in place on the pipe and grip. Punch line is that the tightening up of this clip is NOT by a reducing screw thread as I am used to. Looks a complicated piece of engineering for a humble clip, these Germans! Question is:- How do I reduce the clip in size, still keeping it 'round' to give a tight and snug fit round the clear plastic tube onto the collar of the pistol grip. Of course without wrecking the unit. Is the next purchase a special never to be used again expensive tool?
Seemed a simple solution when I bought the part; hey-ho.
Many thanks.

Hi
I had the same issue, and solved it by throwing way the clip that came with the pump, and replaced it with a traditional screw type jubilee clip, not had any problems with it since.

hi Bernard, I read your post and thought what the hell is he on about, I have no idea what the clip in question looks like as I have never seen one, however if it helps, there are only 4 types of pipe clip
1. is a spring clip that has wings on these are fitted with the aid of grips or pliers closing the wings opens the clip up, this is thread over the pipe and when released tigtens up. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mikalor-W1-SPRING-BAND-TYPE-Fuel-Hose-Clip-Silicone-Pipe-Clamp-Low-Pressure-Air-/330706479039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item4cffa467bf
2. is a crimp clip this has a square section on one side. to close the clip after it has been placed on the pipe you have to squeeze the square section with pincers. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jubilee-Zinc-Plated-O-Hose-Clips-2-Ear-Clamps-Double-Petrol-Air-Water-Fuel-/290677479987?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&var=&hash=item43adba5a33
3. is the normal screw jubilee clip
4, is a bolt clip like 3. only has a bolt instead of a screw. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T-Bolt-Hose-Clamps-TBolt-Supra-Heavy-Duty-Pipe-Clip-Exhaust-Silicone-Stainless-/330653154359?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&var=&hash=item4cfc76bc37
as it is obviously not no3 it has to be 1. 2. or 4. but without seeing one I have no idea.

If you may need to do maintenance always replace silly continental style hose clips with simple jubilee clips. Stainless steel!

To the four members who have supplied responses, I am very grateful indeed for the information and advice offered.
There was no trouble in puting the parts back together, just the 'problem' of tightening the securing ring. Must say Sprocket I never cease to be amazed at the variety and good graphics you are able to present; most helpful and in many instances amusing. Never thought of the trusted jubilee clip in stainless steel, so thanks to both woodsieboy and Gybe. Was worried about the zinc type contaminating the water in some way.
To Colin-yorkshire, the broad style of the clip is that in Option 2. The Truma one has only one flat collar and if approached carefully, find now it can be secured to the pipe and fitting by carefully squeezing the collar with a pair of pincers.
So to all, very grateful thanks once again and as they say, problem solved!!

However the problem with "Jubilee-Clips" is they don't scale down well to the smaller sizes and so are far from round, with potential to damage the plastics.
Things like this would be better:

I cant readily suggest a source for the odd one or two but you see them from time to time in various outlets.

Those plastic type clips with serrations look very useful to have around. Problems with small jubilee clips not being circular can be overcome by using mini pipe clips which are a good fit to the OD of the pipe to be clamped and only a small clamping force is required to tighten them up whilst still retaining good circularity. You can get these in stainless and because the metal thickness is less than used in a standard small jubilee clip they work fine and are easy to fit or remove too

hi Bernard glad your sorted
smiley-laughing.gif
as a quick follow on, the clip shown as option 2, had indeed 2 flats they do come however with 1, 2, and even 3. flats. the clips are closed with pincers be carefull not to use ones that are sharp as these can cut the clip, either use a pair of old ones "blunted" or cover the edges to stop them cutting, also unlike jubilee clips these are designed to be one shot, and not reused, and are often found on petrol or gas pipes, the zinc will not harm the water quality, in fact just the opposite, stainless steel is not actually stainless many chemicals will harm it including stelrilising fluid, if you like some of us dunk the pump in fluid while doing the annual cleaning, the zinc clip would be better "perhaps the reason tuma use them"...
and PS, yes I agree about "Sir Sproket" no idea how he does it
