Not a new topic I know, but it's a new opportunity for us, having invested in a twin axle caravan we are seriously thinking about one of those mover jobbies that are fixed on the caravan axle, if you have one fitted to your twin axle, what make is it, is it effective, and would you recommend it, who fitted it etc, many thanks in advance

Hi,

I have a Reich fitted and it was supplied and installed by R&L Draper. Their service was excellent and they provided a good information/briefing sheet two weeks before they came to fit the mover. I am pleased with it and its weight is lower than some others. It has a 3 yaer gurantee but looking at other web sites I was pleased to note that when any problems had occurred with Reich out of guarantee they take avery responsible approach to customer satisfaction. There again problems seemed rare. R&L Drapers details are:www.caravanmotormovers.co.uk

Cheers

We have the Truma mover and it is okay. The new Truma mover does away with having to lever the rollers onto the wheels. This is now done with the push of a button. A lot easier than other movers.

I agree with Sparkes Steve. Powrtouch is an excellent mover with a no quibble 5 year guarantee on ALL parts at no extra cost. They have been known to price match so it might be worth looking around.

We had a slight problem with the battery isolating key which lost a brass bit. We rang Powrtouch and within 24 hours we had 3 more delivered free of charge.

I have read recently that they have changed the drive rollers. They are now made of aluminium (not steel) and so are lighter. When we change our van and have the mover transferred we might consider having the new rollers fitted.

Hi,

just to say that the Reich can be manually applied using the staedy winder, and both of the rollers can be applied from either sides of the van. Also reich do an elecrtcally option that allows you to apply the rollers using the remote control.

I believe I'm right that the Reich mover is the only one that can turn the van on the spot in the way a single axle mover does. We are having one fitted to our van (when it arrives :( ) and Reich have been very good and patient putting up with many delays.

Unless it lifts the van off an axle then no mover will turn a twin axle on the spot. To do so would damage the tyres.

It probably does the same as the powrwheel version and pulses the inside pair to get a tight corner

To quote this month's PC, "This is the only mover on the market that tackles twin axles using 4 rollers. This means that driven wheels never lose ground contact. It also means that users can turn their twin axle in a tight arc, using all 4 wheels, so there is no scrubbingof the tyres on the ground. You take the caravan backwards and left, then forwards and right, repeatedly, to turn the caravan 360 degrees. By holding down 2 of the buttons on the hand set, an electric preset will do this automatically until the van is in the position you require."

The demo I saw at Earls Court gave a pretty much on the spot turn. The lightness (62Kg) compared to Powrtouch (175Kg) was quite compelling. I had been prepared to go with the latter as they seem to have a great reputation, but the demo sold it to me. The hitch type movers have 2 problems from what I've seen, inclines and rough ground.
