Looking to buy my first caravan in the near future.

If I buy a twin axle model would that restrict me from any sites.

This is just a frequent comment I here when Twin Axle is mentioned.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Alan,

Although there are a few sites that don't like twin-axles, there are hundreds more (the vast majority) that are happy to accept them.

If you need to keep the van in storage then it will be worth checking that the storage facilities near you will accept twin-axle vans (storage facilities are a bit more thin on the ground).

You really just need to check that your towcar is up to the job.

In my opinion, there's no other reason not to consider a twin-axle - you probably want as much room as possible!

Good luck.

We also have had a twin axle for a number of years now, the only drawback is using CL sites sometimes the entrance is to tight to get in but this can be said off some sites also so check these out on google map if you have not been somewhere before. Have witnessed some makes of vans - twin axles that are used by certain long term users being refused entry due to being confused with TRAVELLERS!!

In Europe sites can be choosy but if you are using CC sites book they normally clearly state any restrictions.

But for towability, room and enjoyment go for it!!

Another thing to bear in mind is that some sites don't accept twin axles because of the caravan's size and the size of the access roads leading to and within teh site. From memory I think the C&CC site in St Davids (and possibly Rhandimwyn) state that the site is unsuitable for twin axles. But these sites are in the minority though and I don't know of any sites that would refuse a twin axle booking if they were able to accomodate it. We have a twin and love it!

I can confirm Michael's comment about size also being a determining factor. I have a single axle which is bigger than quite a number of twins and I have been refused access on the odd occasion, too.
