Hi all, I've no doubt tyre pressure questions appear on here often but I'm going to put my specific query and see what I get back, I have a 1999 Avondale Avocect which I've towed safely for the last 2 years with no problems, in the last couple of weeks I have been preparing for going away and removed both wheels for a thorough inspection of the tyres which will be 5 years old in around a months time, I've decided to give them a bit longer on the van as they look absolutely perfect in every respect, I did notice however that on the tyre it says tyre pressure cold 65 psi, in my handbook it says tyre pressure should be 50 which is the pressure I've always kept them at, why would there be such a marked difference in the 2 figures and which is more accurate? The tyres are 175/13c. Clarification would be much appreciated.

The markings on the tyre are for max pressure at max weight (both figure shoud be quoted). Your actual tyre pressure will be a proportion of max pressure (the proportion being approx half max weight of caravan divided by tyre max weight).

On my 1998 Avocet (1200kg) I have 175R13 94N tyres at 48psi.
