I have a 2011 Bailey Madrid,on having it serviced I was informed the tyres have cracks in the side walls. The date marking on the tyres 49/09 so they were nearly two years old when fitted to my new van. I have been in touch with Bailey and am still waiting there reply. Any advice?

Unfortunately you will have to replace the tyres at your own expense. Fitting of tyres up to 2 years old is common practice and not illegal. This is due to unusual sizes, batch quantities, and distribution channels.

Side wall cracking is common due to tyres being relatively inactive in storage open to the elements.

Hi,
Around Six years ago I had to take my car in to have a puncture repaired.
The youth who was given the job said the tyre was scrap because he found having minute cracking on the side walls.
Only observable if the tyre was flexed to the maximum extent and no more than .005" deep.
I said that as I had bought the set of tyres less than a year previously they had better provide a new set under guarantee.
The manager told the fitter there was nothing wrong at all and the cracking did not worsen throughout the life of the tyre.
You have to beware of the idiots.
