Unhitching from C5

Has anyone experienced problems when unhiching their 'vans from a Citroen?

Both of the Citroens (Xantia and C5) I have owned seem very reluctant to let go of the caravan when I want to unhitch. The caravans have had Al-Ko and Winterhoff stabilisers fitted.

Ron, I have a winterhoff hitch that was reluctant to unhitch. The solution that works for me every time is to make sure the hitch is not depressed by having reversed and to unhitch with the hand brake off (make sure the wheels are chocked!).

Yes, it's got nothing to do with the car but it can be very difficult to unhitch if the coupling is extended or compressed fully against the respective end stop. You'll find it a lot easier to unhitch if there's a bit of slack in the system, i.e. the coupling has an inch or so of freedom of movement back and forth.

After stopping go back a bit to reduce the extension in the tow hitch. Had this problem with a Challenger, but reversing an inch cured it!
