Vets in Calais

Hello Bill.

We stay at the following site for at least the last two nights of our trips to France which has several benefits. The owner, who speaks very good English, arranges for your visit to the local vet at a time to suite you - the vet himself is also a pleasant chap with reasonable English and as an extra benefit, there is an immense Auchan supermarket about a quarter of a mile away from the vet where you can do all your last-minute shopping.

Hope this helps.

Olly.

PS - Are you aware of the timing of the vet treatment in respect to your return journey? In other words, there must be more than 24 hours but less than 48 between the treatment by the vet and the presentation of your pet plus relevant documentation at the Pet Control Centre at the port.

There are also the following about whom I have no knowledge .

The web site you refer to is www.dogsaway.co.uk For a fee, they will make an appointment with a vet. I stayed at La Bien Assise in Guines( www.camping-bienssise.fr) not far from Calais. The vet was approx 15 minutes away. You can park outside. Her English is very good and she is totally au fait with the proceedure. You can write to her direct & make an appointment as I did last time-Christiane Petry,1148 bd General de Gaulle, 62100 Calais. I've done a search for a post I made a while ago on another Forum, re. taking your pets abroad (specifically to France), and added more useful info (hopefully) to it! Hope this helps....

Visit Defra at http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm for up-to-date info about the Pet Travel Scheme.

Have a look at http://www.day-tripper.net/infopetsabroad.html for more useful tips and info, including special offers on Ferries etc. Also costs involved for petcare products overseas. Very useful site.

See http://www.ledogstop.com/pages/travel_scheme_vets.html for more useful info.

http://www.dogsaway.co.uk/main/vets.htmalso has good info, and a useful 'step-by-step' guide to obtaining your pet passport. They can arrange a vet on your behalf, but will charge for it at
